Layer-By-Layer Assembly of Cellular Structures [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2012
Reconstituted systems have played an integral part in understanding biological structure and function in, for example, complex biosynthetic and signal transduction pathways. The road to similar model systems that recapitulate complex membrane-based functions, such as division or endocytosis, has been much more difficult due to the lack of synthetic ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Preparation and properties of polylactic acid-based composite fluorescent membrane based on layer-by-layer assembly

open access: yeseXPRESS Polymer Letters, 2019
In this paper, a kind of multi-functional polylactic acid-based membrane with adjustable aggregate thickness and properties was prepared. When the number of assembled layers was 20 bilayers, the mean thickness of every bilayer was found to be 10.75±0.25 ...

Layer-by-layer assembled membranes with immobilized porins

open access: yesRSC Advances, 2017
A new method of layer-by-layer assembly that immobilizes OmpF porins in functionalized polymeric membranes improves the permeation of ions compared to uncharged solutes.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Layer-by-Layer Self-Assembly of Organic−Organometallic Polymer Electrostatic Superlattices Using Poly(ferrocenylsilanes)

open access: yes, 2016
Water-soluble poly(ferrocenylsilane) (PFS) and poly(styrenesulfonate) (PSS) of alternating charge are shown to self-assemble in a layer-by-layer fashion on primed Au, Si, and quartz substrates to create the first examples of organic−organometallic ...
