Thin electron‐scale layers at the magnetopause [PDF]
We use data from the four Cluster satellites to examine the microphysics of a thin electron‐scale layer discovered on the magnetospheric side of the magnetopause. Here the ion and electron motions are decoupled in a layer about 20 km (a few electron scales) wide, including currents and strong electric fields.

Electronic Structure of Titanylphthalocyanine Layers on Ag(111) [PDF]
We have investigated the electronic structures of axially oxo functionalized titanylphthalocyanine (TiOPc) on Ag(111) by X-ray and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopies, two-photon photoemission, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and X-ray magnetic circular dichroism.

Electron phenomena in layered conductors
The quasi-two-dimensional nature of the charge carriers energy spectrum in layered conductors leads to specific effects in an external magnetic field. The magnetoresistance of layered conductors in a wide range of strong magnetic fields directed in the plane of the layers can increase proportionally to a magnetic field value.

Interaction between layers by electron-electron scattering
Solid-State Electronics, 1988Abstract The “molecular dynamics” method combined with Ensemble Monte Carlo, which has previously been used to investigate the effects of electron-electron Coulomb forces in a homogenous state, is applied to a simulation of the effect of mutual Coulomb scattering of the electrons in two parallel semiconductor layers separated by a thin dielectric ...

Electron superconductivity in coupled electron-hole layers
Physical Review B, 1998We investigate superconducting pairing of electrons when coupled to an adjacent layer of holes in a GaAs semiconductor heterostructure. When the density of the electrons is much higher than the density of holes, the repulsive electron-electron interaction is reduced by dynamical coupling to the strongly correlated holes. For the effective-mass ratio of

Polarons in the layered electron gas
Physical Review B, 1991In a layered electron gas, optical phonons which vibrate with their polarization parallel to the c axis are relatively unscreened when the conduction electrons can move only within the planes. We calculate the electron-phonon interaction between the conduction electrons and these parallel phonons. We show that the interaction is very weak.

The inter-layer local-field corrections of weakly coupled electron-electron and electron-hole layers
Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 1998We propose a simple analytical expression for the inter-layer local-field correction (LFC) for weakly coupled two-layer systems and develop a sum-rule version of the self-consistent approach of Singwi, Tosi, Land, and Sjolander. On the basis of the approximate approach, the inter-layer LFC is investigated for electron-electron and electron-hole layers ...

Correlations in coupled layers of electrons and holes
Physical Review B, 1994We investigate interparticle correlations for two layers of charge-carrier liquid trapped in adjacent wells of a gallium arsenide heterostructures. We determine in the absence of appreciable tunneling the static polarizability, the pair correlation functions, and the local-field corrections both within a layer and between the layers.
