Research on analytic calculation model for mining induced stress in multi-layered floor rock

open access: yes矿业科学学报, 2017
Considering the layered structure of floor rock masses, the calculation model for mining induced stress of multi-layered floor rock is established.First, the transfer matrix relating the abutment pressure and stress and displacement components of floor ...

Identifying Arkansas Food Desert Blocks Suitable for a Peer-to-Peer Modeled Food Redistribution Program [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Nearly 10% of Americans reside in low-income urban food deserts which are low-income areas that lack access to affordable and nutritious foods. Food deserts in Arkansas contribute to a food insecurity rate above the national average, making it one of the

Jarosite stability on Mars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Jarosite, a potassium (sodium) iron sulphate hydrated mineral, has recently been identified on the martian surface by the Opportunity rover. Using recent thermochemical data [Drouet and Navrotsky, 2003, Geochim. Cosmochim.

Tuning the Dielectric Properties of Individual Clay Nanosheets by Interlayer Composition: Toward Nano‐Electret Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The dielectric properties of clays are studied on the level of individual monolayers and functional double stacks. The material breakdown characteristics and charge storage performance are analyzed. For illustration, a defined charge pattern representing a cuneiform character is produced, written into a microscopic clay tile, referencing the origins of

Differences between reverse and normal shear in failure characteristics of layered rocks

open access: yesMeitan kexue jishu
The study of the bedding plane effect has important implications for stability analysis of deep rock masses. However, the differences in shear mechanical behavior between natural layered rocks under reverse and normal dip conditions are still not well ...

Spin polaron theory for the photoemission spectra of layered cobaltates

open access: yes, 2007
Recently, strong reduction of the quasiparticle peaks and pronounced incoherent structures have been observed in the photoemission spectra of layered cobaltates.

Expanding Chemical Space of Nucleic Acid Nanoparticles for Tunable Antiviral‐Like Immunomodulatory Responses and Potent Adjuvant Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a nucleic acid nanoparticle (NANP) platform designed to be rrecognized by the human innate immune system in a regulated manner. By changing chemical composition while maintaining constant architectural parameters, we identify key determinants of immunorecognition enabling the rational design of NANPs with tunable immune activation profiles

From Waste to Value: Conversion of Calcium Sulfate to Vaterite via Carbon Capture and Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a new concept for carbon management that relies on the carbonation of industrial gypsum waste and yields phase‐pure vaterite at ambient conditions without any additives. The obtained vaterite is further shown to be a reactive material that develops compressive strength in aqueous suspensions like conventional cements.

Role of Histidine‐Containing Peptoids in Accelerating the Kinetics of Calcite Growth

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Amphiphilic histidine‐containing peptoids mimic carbonic anhydrase (CA) to accelerate calcite step growth. In the presence of Zn2+, they promote the deprotonation of HCO3−, the desolvation of Ca2+, and the reorganization of interfacial hydration layers, thereby reducing the activation barrier for calcite growth.

Artificial Amorphous Interface Matters for Boosting High‐Voltage Stable LiCoO2 Cathode

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The amorphization of phosphate‐based surface layer with favorable Li‐ion conducting kinetics is realized by precisely tailored atomic‐level fabrication. This amorphous coating enables the lithium cobalt oxide (LCO) cathode superior high‐voltage rate capability and cycling performance, owing to the fast interfacial ionic transport and maintained ...
