Preliminary geologic mapping near the Nilosyrtis Mensae, Mars [PDF]

open access: yes
Virtually the entire map area is mantled by an irregular deposit of material that is apparently fine-grained and erodible. It is also extremely young, as there is not a single crater larger than 1 km in the map area that was emplaced atop the mantle ...

Cell Calcification Models and Their Implications for Medicine and Biomaterial Research

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Calcification, is the process by which the tissues containing minerals are formed, occurring during normal physiological processes, or in pathological conditions. Here, it is aimed to give a comprehensive overview of the range of cell models available, and the approaches taken by these models, highlighting when and how methodological divergences arise,

Controlling Intestinal Organoid Polarity using Synthetic Dynamic Hydrogels Decorated with Laminin‐Derived IKVAV Peptides

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Design rules are presented to control intestinal organoid polarity in fully synthetic hydrogels. The laminin‐derived IKVAV sequence is crucial to obtain correct intestinal organoid polarity. Increasing hydrogel dynamics further supports the growth of correctly polarized intestinal organoids, while a bulk level of stiffness (G’ ≈ 0.7 kPa) is crucial to ...

Water and ice on Mars: Evidence from Valles Marineris [PDF]

open access: yes
An important contribution to the volatile history of Mars comes from a study of Valles Marineris, where stereoimages and a 3-D view of the upper Martian crust permit unusual insights.

Characterization and Stability Analysis of Rock Mass Discontinuities in Layered Slopes: A Case Study from Fushun West Open-Pit Mine

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Discontinuities exist widely in high rock slopes and threaten their stability at all times. To accurately characterize the information of rock mass discontinuities in high slopes, the layered rock slope on the north side of the Fushun West Open-pit Mine ...

Spherical Skin Model: Stratified Co‐Culture of Fibroblasts and Keratinocytes on Spherical Beads Toward Compound Screening

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Models of the human skin must combine the relevant biological contents and suitable biomaterials with the correct spatial organization. Performing compound screening on such in vitro models also requires fast and reproducible production methods of the models.

Crack growth properties and AE phenomena in notched hard/soft layered rock under punch shear test; experimental test and numerical simulation

open access: yesResults in Engineering
Facing layered rocks is common in various mining geotechnical and tunnel engineering projects. These layers vary in thickness and are separated by bedding planes, which can either be cemented together or distinct from each other.

Hybrid Nanofibers for Multimodal Accelerated Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Fabrication of wound healing scaffolds based on biocompatible nanofibers. Nanofibers offering high surface area, flexibility, and biocompatibility significantly improved the healing outcome in vivo. Histological, immunological, and anti‐inflammatory markers are noticeably better in treated wounds.
