Experiments on double diffusive convection

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Physique
Double diffusive convection is a form of convection that was studied in the past mostly for its application in oceanography and which receives increasing attention in the context of planetary cores.

Surface Crystallization in a Liquid AuSi Alloy

open access: yes, 2006
X-ray measurements reveal a crystalline monolayer at the surface of the eutectic liquid Au_{82}Si_{18}, at temperatures above the alloy's melting point.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Effect of the Metro Train on the Smoke Back-Layering Length under Different Tunnel Cross-Sections

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Smoke back-layering length is an important aspect of tunnel fire research, and the influence of metro train blockage cannot be ignored. In previous studies, less attention has been paid to the phenomenon of back-layering caused by the same train blocked ...

Anomalous layering at the liquid Sn surface

open access: yes, 2004
X-ray reflectivity measurements on the free surface of liquid Sn are presented. They exhibit the high-angle peak, indicative of surface-induced layering, also found for other pure liquid metals (Hg, Ga and In).

Efficient pruning of large knowledge graphs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper we present an efficient and highly accurate algorithm to prune noisy or over-ambiguous knowledge graphs given as input an extensional definition of a domain of interest, namely as a set of instances or concepts. Our method climbs the graph

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Effect of Aeroelastic Tailoring Design on Wing Mode

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2023
In this paper, in order to clarify the influence of structural parameters of laminates on the modal characteristics of high-aspect-ratio wings under prestress, the CFD/CSD coupling method was used to study the modal characteristics of nonlinear ...

A Monte Carlo study of random surface field effect on layering transitions

open access: yes, 2004
The effect of a random surface field, within the bimodal distribution, on the layering transitions in a spin-1/2 Ising thin film is investigated, using Monte Carlo simulations.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
