Effect of Irradiation on Corrosion Behavior of 316L Steel in Lead-Bismuth Eutectic with Different Oxygen Concentrations

open access: yesQuantum Beam Science, 2021
In an accelerator-driven system (ADS), the beam window material of the spallation neutron target is heavily irradiated under severe conditions, in which the radiation damage and corrosion co-occur because of high-energy neutron and/or proton irradiation ...

Solid‐State Electrolyte Materials for Sodium Batteries: Towards Practical Applications

open access: yesChemElectroChem, Volume 7, Issue 13, Page 2693-2713, July 1, 2020., 2020
Do me a solid: Various families of sodium‐ion conductors are evaluated in terms of ionic conductivity, chemical stability, mechanical properties and compatibility with sodium metal. With a perspective towards practical applications, recent progress of sodium‐based solid‐state batteries is reviewed with respect to galvanostatic cycling and full cell ...

Influence of High-Density electropulsing treatment on the interface corrosion characteristics of 316L steel in Lead-Bismuth eutectic at 823 K [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
In order to find an effective method to improve the corrosion resistance properties of the candidate structural materials for lead-alloy cooled fast reactors, the 316L steel was treated by high density single elec-tropulsing.

Modeling Corrosion and Precipitation in Non-isothermal LBE Pipe/Loop Systems [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nuclear Science and Technology, 2005
A previous kinetic model on corrosion and precipitation for a non-isothermal LBE pipe/loop system is improved by considering a turbulent core region and a laminar sub-layer, respectively. Exact solutions of the mass transfer equations in both core and boundary regions are obtained.

Fretting Wear and Corrosion in Liquid Lead-Bismuth Eutectic: A Review of Current State and Prospect

open access: yesEngineered Science
Lead–bismuth eutectic (LBE) is a promising coolant for Generation-IV reactors. The corrosion of LBE and the fretting wear caused by fluid-induced vibration will gradually become the main causes of component failure.

Corrosion behaviour of 11Cr1Si ferritic/martensitic steel in static liquid lead–bismuth eutectic at 450–550 ℃

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2023
The corrosion behaviour of 11Cr1Si ferritic/martensitic (F/M) steel in static liquid lead–bismuth eutectic (LBE) at 450–550 °C was investigated. The results show that the oxide layer on 11Cr1Si F/M steel exposed in LBE at 450–550 °C appeared different ...

Influence of Surface State on the Corrosion Behavior of Si-Reinforced F/M Steels under Solid-Phase Oxygen-Controlled Static Liquid LBE Environment

open access: yesMetals
Since F/M steel is one of the leading candidate materials for the lead-cooled fast reactor (LFR), its compatibility with the liquid LBE environment is an essential issue before application.

Numerical Simulation of Multi-field Coupled Corrosion Behavior of Core Cladding in Lead-bismuth Fast Reactor

open access: yesYuanzineng kexue jishu
Corrosion of structural materials in lead-bismuth fast reactors due to liquid lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) is a significant issue that hinders their development.

Relative Resiliency of Bioanode Electrochemical Resistances with Changes in Interelectrode Spacing in Microbial Electrolysis Cells

open access: yesChemElectroChem, Volume 13, Issue 13, 2 July 2026.
Hydrogen gas can be produced from organic matter in microbial electrolysis cells (MECS) using certain microorganisms on the anode and a catalyst on the cathode. We show that materials and different electrode distances change gas production rates, but the intrinsic properties of the microbes to produce current were unaffected by subsequent changes in ...

Preliminary CFD Assessment of an Experimental Test Facility Operating with Heavy Liquid Metals

open access: yesScience and Technology of Nuclear Installations, Volume 2017, Issue 1, 2017., 2017
The CFD analysis of a Venturi nozzle operating in LBE (key component of the CIRCE facility, owned by ENEA) is presented in this paper. CIRCE is a facility developed to investigate in detail the fluid‐dynamic behavior of ADS and/or LFR reactor plants. The initial CFD simulations have been developed hand in hand with the comparison with experimental data:
