Direct determination of lead-210 by liquid-scintillation counting [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
Soft betas, the internal conversion electrons, and unconverted gamma rays from lead-210 are efficiently detected in a liquid scintillation counting system with efficiency of 97 percent. The counter is interfaced with a multichannel pulse height analyzer.

210Pb- 226Ra chronology reveals rapid growth rate of Madrepora oculata and Lophelia pertusa on world's largest cold-water coral reef [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Here we show the use of the 210Pb- 226Ra excess method to determine the growth rate of two corals from the world's largest known cold-water coral reef, Røst Reef, north of the Arctic circle off Norway.

Lifestyle Behaviors and Cardiotoxic Treatment Risks in Adult Childhood Cancer Survivors

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Higher doses of anthracyclines and heart‐relevant radiotherapy increase cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. This study assessed CVD and CVD risk factors among adult childhood cancer survivors (CCSs) across cardiotoxic treatment risk groups and examined associations between lifestyle behaviors and treatment risks.

Research Advance of Hypoxia-regulated miR-210 in Cancer

open access: yesZhongliu Fangzhi Yanjiu, 2018
The uncontrolled proliferation of tumor cells and the relative deficiency of the internal neovascularization network lead to insufficient oxygen supply.

Lead-210 in the atmospheric air of North and South Estonia: long-term monitoring and back-trajectory calculations; pp. 442–451 [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Estonian Academy of Sciences, 2016
As the first study of long-term atmospheric 210Pb in Estonia, the activity concentration and possible origins of the nuclide were monitored at Tõravere, South Estonia, and Narva-Jõesuu, North-East Estonia, from 2001 to 2008.

Contributions of Organic and Mineral Matter to Vertical Accretion in Tidal Wetlands across a Chesapeake Bay Subestuary

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
Persistence of tidal wetlands under conditions of sea level rise depends on vertical accretion of organic and inorganic matter, which vary in their relative abundance across estuarine gradients.

Lead 210 or climatic changes at South Pole? [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 1977
The 210Pb concentration has been measured in 92 adjacent firn samples collected at the South Pole along a 18 m depth profile. The decay analysis shows that significant changes happened around 1920 and 1954 either in the accumulation rate or in the 210Pb content of the new fallen snow.

Dating of ice cores from Vernagtferner (Austria) with fission products and lead-210 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
Fission product (90Sr_ 90y, I37CS, total beta) and 2tOPb_210pO activities were measured in core samples from the temperate vernagtferner (3150 m altitude, Oetztal Alps, Austria).

Chemical characteristics of air from different source regions during the second Pacific Exploratory Mission in the Tropics (PEM-Tropics B) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Ten-day backward trajectories are used to determine the origins of air parcels arriving at locations of airborne DC-8 chemical measurements during NASA's second Pacific Exploratory Mission in the Tropics B that was conducted during February-April 1999 ...

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only
