Pre-clinical evaluation of lead-203 as an imaging surrogate for lead-212 radiopharmaceuticals [PDF]
We are investigating the potential use of short-lived alpha-emitting radionuclides for the treatment of ovarian carcinoma. These radionuclides transfer dense high ionizing linear energy (high LET) over a short path length without dependence upon cellular oxygen.

Molecular changes in malignant tissue can lead to an increase in the expression levels of various proteins or receptors that can be used to target the disease. In oncology, diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy of tumors is possible by attaching an appropriate radionuclide to molecules that selectively bind to these target proteins.

Preparation of carrier-free lead-212 (thorium B)
Journal of Chemical Education, 1959The 10.6-hr Pb/sup 212/ can be separated in carrier-free form by placing Th(OH)/sub 4/ or other suitable compound in an electric field. Thoron (Rn/sup 220/) escapes into the gas phases decays to Po/sup 216/, which decays to positively charged ions of Pb/sup 212/. These ions collect on the negative plate. A simple apparatus for this purpose is described.

Lead-212 in the Urban Boundary Layer of New York City
Science, 1972The radioactive emanation product lead-212 is useful in estimating rates of air exchange within the urban boundary layer. The concentration of lead-212 is negligible in air of oceanic origin as well as in air above continental areas under snow cover. On several days when conditions were such that one of these types of air mass approached New York City,

Clearance of lead-212 ions from rabbit bronchial epithelium to blood
Physics in Medicine & Biology, 1977The absorption of 212Pb ions from bronchial epithelium to blood has been investigated in anaesthetized rabbits. The 212Pb ions were introduced by intubation either into the trachea or into smaller, more distal bronchi. Removal from lung was followed by external gamma-counting. Mucociliary clearance to the GI tract was blocked by tracheostomy.

Selective Gaseous Electro-Deposition of Lead-212 and Thallium-208 from RdTh Source
Journal of Nuclear Science and Technology, 1973Fractional electro-deposition of 212Pb and 208Tl from RdTh source using a capsule equipped with three electrodes was carried out under normal pressure. The experiment was conducted with variations brought to the applied voltage, the interval between the electrodes, time allowed for deposition and grid conditions.
