Machine Learning-Based Identification of Key Predictors for Lightning Events in the Third Pole Region

open access: yesISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information
The Third Pole region, particularly the Hindu–Kush–Himalaya (HKH), is highly prone to lightning, causing thousands of fatalities annually. Skillful prediction and timely communication are essential for mitigating lightning-related losses in such ...

Establish a special conservation zone for the captive giant panda

open access: yesEcosystem Health and Sustainability, 2018
The giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is recognized worldwide as an icon for wildlife conservation. Since the introduction in 1992 of reliable methods for artificial insemination, the population of captive pandas has grown to approximately 350 ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Stress and efficiency studies in EFG [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
Stress and efficiency studies in EFG were carried out for silicon sheet growth. Methods were developed to quantify influence of dislocation electrical activity on bulk lifetime. A new creep law formulation for silicon stress was developed.

Viscous regularization and r-adaptive remeshing for finite element analysis of lipid membrane mechanics

open access: yes, 2007
As two-dimensional fluid shells, lipid bilayer membranes resist bending and stretching but are unable to sustain shear stresses. This property gives membranes the ability to adopt dramatic shape changes. In this paper, a finite element model is developed

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

The (dis)establishment of gender: Care and gender roles in the family as a constitutional matter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This article reasons that for women, as constitutional subjects, the emancipatory promise of constitutionalism was—from its inception—fundamentally limited by the entrenchment of the separate spheres tradition.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.
