Lead-interacting proteins and their implication in lead poisoning

open access: yes, 2019
Lead is an important heavy metal used worldwide in several applications, especially in industry. People exposed to lead can develop a wide range of symptoms associated with lead poisoning.

Nanozymes for Advanced Hemoglobin‐Based Oxygen Carriers: Applications in Blood Substitution, Wound Healing, Antitumor Therapy, and Beyond

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review explores how hemoglobin‐based oxygen carriers (HBOCs) combined with nanozymes create multifunctional materials that deliver oxygen while maintaining redox homeostasis. Beyond artificial blood substitutes, these constructs enable wound healing with light‐triggered oxygen release, cancer therapy through enhanced oxygenation and reactive ...

MetalCenter‐Dependent Selectivity Divergence in MN4 Single‐Atom Catalysts for Aerobic HMF Oxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Two single‐atom catalysts with M‐N4 configurations (FeN4 and CoN4) were developed for selective HMF oxidation. FeN4 achieves 93.9% selectivity toward FFCA via superoxide anions (O2•−), while CoN4 preferentially produces FDCA through hydroxyl radicals (•OH). DFT calculations reveal that distinct adsorption energies and charge redistribution at the metal

Mass‐Transport–Engineered CCM Architecture Employing MPL‐Free Carbon Paper and Graphene‐Coated Ni Foam Channels for High‐Temperature PEM Fuel Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A CCM‐based architectural strategy is introduced for high‐temperature PEM fuel cells, enabling MPL‐free carbon paper gas diffusion layers via decal‐transfer processing. By co‐engineering the CCM, GDL, and a G‐foam flow field, oxygen transport is enhanced while phosphoric‐acid leakage is suppressed, resulting in high power density and stable operation ...

One in Four US Households Likely Exceed New Soil Lead Guidance Levels

open access: yesGeoHealth
Lead exposure has blighted communities across the United States (and the globe), with much of the burden resting on lower income communities, and communities of color.

Blood Lead Levels among Children in Yaoundé Cameroon

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health, 2017
Blood lead levels (BLLs) are a useful indication of a population exposure to lead from environmental sources. No previous published study had reported BLLs in Cameroon.

Tailored Catalytic Microenvironments Enable Efficient Electrochemical Ammonia Production

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that Co2+ substitution in inverse spinel FeFeCoO4 constructs an integrated catalytic microenvironment for efficient nitrate‐to‐ammonia reduction. Jahn–Teller distortion activates Fe sites for *H generation, while hard–soft acid–base regulated dual‐metal sites optimize proton‐coupled electron transfer and intermediate adsorption ...
