Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Influenza vaccines: mTOR inhibition surprisingly leads to protection

open access: yesNature Immunology, 2013
Mice immunized with influenza virus in the presence of rapamycin, which blocks the formation of germinal centers, make mostly IgM antibodies that protect against infection with multiple subtypes of influenza virus, including avian viruses.

Irregular behaviour in stating preferences for nature protection. A Choice Experiment in Belarus [PDF]

open access: yes
Using choice experiment, this paper investigates how Belarusian citizens value planned Zvanets mire protection programmes. Two approaches are used to analyze ignored attributes: a debriefing question, and estimating parameters at the individual level. We

Indirect tests of the Randall-Sundrum model

open access: yes, 2011
I present phenomenological implications of the Randall-Sundrum model for indirect searches, specifically a selection of flavor observables and Higgs-related collider searches.

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Institutional causes of output volatility [PDF]

open access: yes
The authors investigate the relationship between the quality of institutions and output volatility. Using instrumental variable regressions, they address whether higher entry barriers and lower property rights protection lead to higher volatility.

Studying the effect of chloroquine on sporozoite-induced protection and immune responses in Plasmodium berghei malaria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND Sporozoite immunization of animals and humans under a chemo-prophylactic cover of chloroquine (CPS-CQ) efficiently induces sterile protection against malaria.

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.
