Liquid Crystal Elastomer Actuator Matrix for Large Area Applications
A scalable approach is used to manufacture a digitally‐controllable, 2D 5 × 5 actuator matrix. The elements of the matrix are produced by direct ink writing of a liquid crystal elastomer ‘artificial muscle’ on large‐area flexible thin‐film heaters. In optimizing the low‐power actuators, multiple heater designs and substrate materials are investigated ...

Numerical Modeling of Photothermal Self‐Excited Composite Oscillators
We present a numerical framework for simulating photothermal self‐excited oscillations. The driving mechanism is elucidated by highlighting the roles of inertia and overshoot, as well as the phase lag between the thermal moment and the oscillation angle, which together construct the feedback loop between the system state and the environmental stimulus.

Muscle Control of an Extra Robotic Digit
This study compares muscle‐ and movement‐based control for operating a supernumerary robotic thumb. While movement control performs better in the proposed tasks, muscle‐based (EMG) control promotes broader motor learning. The results highlight the promise and challenges of using biosignals for human augmentation, offering new insights into intuitive ...

Effects of temperature and osmotic stress on leaf appearance rate
Plant leaf regrowth stage is widely accepted as the key determinant for grazing interval, however regular monitoring and assessment of leaf appearance rate on farm is often neglected due to time and ambiguity in assessment.
