Inheritance in Periwinkle: Leaf Pubescence and Corolla Color

Journal of Herbs, Spices & Medicinal Plants, 1999
ABSTRACT Inheritance of pubescence (on leaves and follicles) and corolla color in periwinkle was studied in a cross involving the variety Nirmal (pubescent leaves and follicles and white corolla) and a germ-plasm line PS-1 (glabrous leaves and follicles and pink corolla). Pubescence on leaves and follicles was governed by a single recessive gene.

Biochemistry of Indian summer: physiology of autumnal leaf coloration

Experimental Gerontology, 2000
The autumnal coloration of foliage in deciduous trees represents a most spectacular phytogerontological phenomenon. It is primarily due to the progressive loss of chlorophyll coinciding with the partial retention of carotenoids. Leaf senescence is a developmental process that is aimed at the recycling of nutrients to perennial parts of the tree for ...

Variations in Leaf Coloration Using a Reflectance Colorimeter

Arboriculture & Urban Forestry, 1982
Leaf coloration for 9 plant species measured with a Hunter colorimeter showed major variations between plants and leaves within a plant, but minor variations associated with reading position within leaves and instrument. The lower leaf surface was more sensitive to color differences.

High-quality maple genome reveals duplication-facilitated leaf color diversity

Plant Science
Acer truncatum is a horticultural tree species with individuals that display either yellow or red leaves in autumn, giving it high ornamental and economic value. 'Lihong' of A. truncatum is an excellent cultivar due to its characteristic of having autumn leaves that turn a bright and beautiful shade of red, while its closely related cultivar 'Bunge ...

Red/Purple Leaf Margin Coloration: Potential Defensive Functions

2016
Another multifunctional type of leaf coloration is that of red leaf margins. The leaf margins of many plant species of various plant families and life history types, belonging to the floras of several continents, produce a conspicuous but sometimes very thin band of red/purple color around their periphery (Fig. 20.9).
