The short-term growth response to salt of the developing barley leaf
Recent results concerning the short-term growth response to salinity of the developing barley leaf are reviewed. Plants were grown hydroponically and the growth response of leaf 3 was studied between 10 min and 5 d following addition of 100 mM NaCl to ...

Is elongation-induced leaf emergence beneficial for submerged Rumex species? [PDF]
Plant species from various taxa 'escape' from low oxygen conditions associated with submergence by a suite of traits collectively called the low oxygen escape syndrome (LOES). The expression of these traits is associated with costs and benefits. Thus far, remarkably few studies have dealt with the expected benefits of the LOES.Young plants were fully ...

Numerical Modeling of Photothermal Self‐Excited Composite Oscillators
We present a numerical framework for simulating photothermal self‐excited oscillations. The driving mechanism is elucidated by highlighting the roles of inertia and overshoot, as well as the phase lag between the thermal moment and the oscillation angle, which together construct the feedback loop between the system state and the environmental stimulus.

Plant growth regulators influence the height and biomass partition of castor plants [PDF]
Castor (Ricinus communis) is a drought-resistant oilseed crop. This study evaluated five plant growth regulators (PGR) on their capacity to influence stem elongation of castor plants growing under shade and measured side effects on the biomass allocation

The harvest object of a sweet sorghum plant is all parts of shoot which mainly consists of a juicy main stem, leaf blades and leaf sheaths. To obtain higher yield, it is important to understand in detail the yield production process. However, little has been known about plant age for sweet sorghum, which is an important parameter to predict the growth ...

Climate Change Threatens Micronutrient Density of European Winter Wheat
Micronutrients are vital for human health. Wheat is a major staple crop and a significant source of minerals and B‐vitamins. The impact of climate change on their content remains largely unknown. We evaluated micronutrient levels in European winter wheat grown under historical and projected climate conditions. Our findings indicate that future climates

Ecological Adaptation Mechanisms Underlying Successful Plant Reproduction
During floral induction, various environmental and endogenous signals converge to regulate the florigen protein, which is transported from leaves to the SAM to initiate flowering. Within the SAM, a complex network of receptor kinases and small peptides orchestrates floral development with high spatiotemporal precision.
