Oil-filled glands on a leaf

Trends in Plant Science, 2001
Peltate and capitate glandular trichomes produce secretions containing monoterpenes (Fig. 1Fig. 1). Peltate glandular trichomes have eight secretory cells on top of one stalk cell and one basal cell, whereas capitate glandular trichomes have one secretory cell, one stalk cell and one basal cell.

Development of Leaf and Stipular Glands in Coffea arabica

Flora: Morphology, Distribution, Functional Ecology of Plants, 1975
Summary The present paper describes the leaf development, the apical growth and the marginal growth in Coffea arabica . The tissue differentiation in the leaf is described and schematically presented. The marginal growth of the leaf blade belongs to the middle submarginal type. Stomata are paracytic.

Ultrastructure of Aeluropus littoralis leaf salt glands under NaCl stress

Protoplasma, 2008
The effects of salt uptake on the morphology and ultrastructure of leaf salt glands were investigated in Aeluropus littoralis plants grown for two months in the presence of 400 mM NaCl. The salt gland is composed of two linked cells, as observed in some other studied Poaceae species.

Distribution of Pyrethrins in Oil Glands and Leaf Tissue ofChrysanthemum cinerariaefolium

Planta Medica, 1983
Leaves of Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium at various stages of development were found to contain differing amounts of pyrethrins. The variation corresponds to the number of oil glands per unit area of leaf surface. Leaf tissue was mechanically and enzymatically separated into lower and upper epidermis and mesophyll cells.

Cytoplasmic microtubules in the leaf glands of Phaseolus vulgaris

Journal of Cell Science, 1967
ABSTRACT Preliminary observations on the fine structure of the club-shaped glands on Phaseolus vulgaris leaves are reported. The perinuclear cytoplasm of the apical cells of these glands contains an abundance of microtubules. These occur either as aggregates of 2–8 or more tubules, or they may be organized around a central core of ...

A cytochemical study of the leaf-gland enzymes of insectivorous plants of the genus Pinguicula

Planta, 1971
Cytochemical methods have been used to study the distribution of acid phosphatase, esterase, ribonuclease, amylase and protease activity in the stimulated and unstimulated leaf glands of Pinguicula grandiflora, P. vulgaris, P. lusitanica, and P. caudata. Two gland types are present, stalked and sessile.

Ultrastructure of Oil Gland Development in the Leaf of Citrus sinensis L.

Botanical Gazette, 1976
The young oil glands of Citrus sinensis L. consist of a central group of polyhedral cells encircled by layers of radially flattened cells The oil chamber forms schizogenously through a separation of the walls of the central cells, which are pushed outward and flattened with the expansion and filling of the oil chamber.

Nectar of Peach Leaf Glands as Insect Food

The Canadian Entomologist, 1963
AbstractThe secretion of the extrafloral nectaries on peach leaves is consumed by many insects. It is especially important as food for some stages of a number of predators and parasites that usually feed on honeydew and blossoms, but it cannot completely replace these foods for those species requiring nitrogenous components.

Atlas of Leaf Venation and Oil Gland Patterns in the Eucalypts

2013
Atlas of Leaf Venation and Oil Gland Patterns in the Eucalypts is an aid to the identification of eucalypts in the field and a confirmation of the natural affinities between species and higher-level taxa on the basis of their comparative morphology. Its purpose is to standardise leaf venation and oil gland terminology and to demonstrate the taxonomic ...

Structural features of the salt glands of the leaf of Distichlis spicata 'Yensen 4a' (Poaceae)

Protoplasma, 2009
The epidermal salt glands of the leaf of Distichlis spicata 'Yensen 4a' (Poaceae) have a direct contact with one or two water-storing parenchyma cells, which act as collecting cells. A vacuole occupying almost the whole volume of the collecting cell has a direct exit into the extracellular space (apoplast) through the invaginations of the parietal ...
