Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Hypertension Treatment in Patients with Metabolic Syndrome and/or Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: Analysis of the Therapy Effectivity and the Therapeutic Inertia in Outpatient Study

open access: yesCardiology Research and Practice, 2018
We have analysed the database of 1,595 consecutive patients visiting our department of cardiology and internal medicine clinic in 2005–2014. The analysis included 13,990 visit records, and the average number of visits per patient was 8.5 ± 7.0. Our goals

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

A note on a sports league scheduling problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Sports league scheduling is a difficult task in the general case. In this short note, we report two improvements to an existing enumerative search algorithm for a NP-hard sports league scheduling problem known as "prob026" in CSPLib.

School performance in Australia: is there a role for quasi-markets? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Recent changes to the organisation of Australia's education system have raised the possibility of implementing wide-ranging market reforms. In this article we discuss the scope for introducing reforms similar to the United Kingdom's 'quasi-market' model.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Performance league tables

open access: yesBMJ, 2002
Valid performance league tables cannot be formed from indirectly standardised indices.1–5 However, this methodology has been adopted for most of the performance indicators for NHS trusts that relate to outcomes, effectiveness, and access. This includes all the clinical indicators.6 Indirect standardisation is also used to compare general practitioners'
