On the Excitation of Leaky Modes in Cylindrical Loops

The role of leaky waves in the coronal loop oscillations observed by TRACE is not yet clearly understood. In this work, the excitation of fast waves in solar coronal loops modelled as dense plasma cylindrical tubes in a uniform straight magnetic field is investigated.

Leaky bound modes in planar waveguides

We propose a new and efficient method of analyzing leaky waveguides where we graphically find the extreme reflectivity of a light ray incident from one side of the outermost cladding toward the leaky waveguide. Such a field, called the leaky bound mode by us, is briefly described and numerical examples are presented.

Excitation of leaky modes on multilayer stripline

The practical issue of excitation of leaky modes on multilayered stripline structures is analyzed. The excitation is studied by calculating the current on the strip conductor due to a source. The GPOF method is used to investigate the physical meaning of the leaky modes.

Acoustic resonant leaky mode effects

An acoustic leaky mode resonator having a structure similar to that of an optical guided-mode resonator is demonstrated experimentally and theoretically. The measured transmission spectra reveal the existence of resonant modes and agree with the predictions of finite-difference time-domain calculations.

Leaky modes in graded index optical fibers

Leaky mode attenuation coefficients for graded index optical fibers are derived using the WKB approximation. For the case of a parabolic index profile, the attenuation coefficients for explicitly evaluated and used to calculate the leaky mode contribution to near field and attenuation measurements.

What Is a Quantized Mode of a Leaky Cavity?

Quantum optics conventionally represents the electromagnetic radiation in a leaky cavity by a normal-modes expansion, as if the cavity were closed and perfect, with the leakage being described by coupling these modes to a reservoir. This phenomenological approach is only a good approximation for stable resonators with very large quality factors.

Leaky Quasi Modes in Curved Plates

Cylindrical engineering structures can sometimes be inspected effectively using a circumferential guided wave technique to cover the full circumference from a single location. Many of these structures are embedded so that energy leaks into the surrounding material as the waves propagate around the structure.

On resonance widths of leaky Lamb modes

For an elastic plate immersed in a lossless fluid, it is known that resonances of leaky Lamb modes contribute to the transmission coefficient in a manner dependent on the resonance widths. Based on numerical solutions in the complex wave-number field, an examination of such resonance widths is presented here.
