Leaky Modes of Symmetrical Groove Guide
MTT-S International Microwave Symposium Digest, 2005Both the odd and even higher modes of groove guide, a low-loss waveguide proposed some years ago for millimeter wavelengths and of interest again today, are investigated quantitatively. We verified an early prediction that all the odd higher modes leak, and we find that all even higher modes do also.

Leaky modes on circular optical waveguides
Applied Optics, 1976A nonabsorbing optical waveguide of circular cross section supports leaky modes in addition to the well-known bound modes. The detailed properties of these leaky modes are determined by solving the eigenvalue equation for the modes of a circular dielectric cylinder below their cutoff frequency.

Leaky modes on W-fibers: mode structure and attenuation
Applied Optics, 1977The mode structure of a W-fiber has been discussed in conjunction with that of an SC-fiber using the WKB approximation, and the leaky mode attenuation coefficient has been derived using Poynting's vector theorem. Furthermore, a simplified expression for the attenuation coefficient of the W-fiber has been obtained and compared with that of the SC-fiber.

Abstract A liquid level sensing scheme based on leaky mode attenuation and a corresponding liquid level sensor based on a guided-mode–leaky-mode–guided-mode (GLG) fiber structure are proposed, which aim at the liquid whose refractive index (RI) is higher than that of the silica fiber.

Acoustic resonant leaky mode effects
Applied Physics Letters, 2009An acoustic leaky mode resonator having a structure similar to that of an optical guided-mode resonator is demonstrated experimentally and theoretically. The measured transmission spectra reveal the existence of resonant modes and agree with the predictions of finite-difference time-domain calculations.

Microstrip leaky-mode antenna array
IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1997The first-pass design of a linear eight-element microstrip leaky-mode antenna array is proposed, built, and tested, showing a gain of 18.5 dB, directivity of 23.5 dB, and pencil beam with 3-dB beamwidth (Az/El) of 10.2/spl deg//14.3/spl deg/. Excellent agreement between the theoretical prediction and measured results for the array antenna performance ...

Leaky-mode resonant reflectors with extreme bandwidths
Optics Letters, 2010We present ultrawide flat-band reflectors enabled with multilevel resonant leaky-mode structures. The reflectors are designed using particle swarm optimization. We show that three-level silicon-on-insulator structures provide bandwidths of approximately 840 nm for TE polarization and approximately 835 nm for TM polarization, across which reflectance is

High-power leaky-mode multiple-stripe laser
Applied Physics Letters, 1980A new multiple-stripe injection laser has been developed. By fabricating a stripe array of buried heterostructures configured to operate in leaky modes, strong coupling is produced between the stripes leading to linear operation and stable output characteristics.

Behavioral feature of the space-wave leaky mode, the surface-wave leaky mode and the bound mode
2000 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium Digest (Cat. No.00CH37017), 2002We report here our recent discoveries relating to the dispersion behaviors of printed-circuit transmission lines. Such behaviors relate to those of both the bound dominant mode and the space-wave leaky modes propagating at rather low frequencies. The discovered behaviors affect significantly the performance of microwave and millimeter-wave integrated ...
