Investigation into Lean-Burn Combustor Thermo-acoustic Instabilities: Modelling of Entropy Convection for Low Frequency Rumble Prediction [PDF]

open access: yes
New combustion methods, aimed to reduce emissions, are shown to be susceptible to instability. To reduce nitrogen oxides, the traditional diffusion flame is replaced by lean combustion, where fuel-air are partially premixed, and combustion conditions are

Combustion regimes in sequential combustors: Flame propagation and autoignition at elevated temperature and pressure

open access: yes, 2018
This numerical study investigates the combustion modes in the second stage of a sequential combustor at atmospheric and high pressure. The sequential burner (SB) features a mixing section with fuel injection into a hot vitiated crossflow.

Effect of Atomic Layer Deposition of Ultra‐Thin Oxide on Reactivity and Durability of Perovskite Oxygen Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This table of contents illustrates that the mechanism for mitigating Sr segregation depends strongly on the chemistry of the coating layer. HfO2 electrostatically stabilizes the surface by lowering the surface oxygen vacancies, which serve as the driving force for Sr migration. On the other hand, Al2O3 and Fe2O3 react with segregated Sr to form Sr‐Al‐O

Evaluation of advanced combustion concepts for dry NO sub x suppression with coal-derived, gaseous fuels [PDF]

open access: yes
The emissions performance of a rich lean combustor (developed for liquid fuels) was determined for combustion of simulated coal gases ranging in heating value from 167 to 244 Btu/scf (7.0 to 10.3 MJ/NCM). The 244 Btu/scf gas is typical of the product gas

Polymorph‐Specific Electronic Transduction in WO3 during Molecular Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐oxide polymorphs with similar surface chemistry can nevertheless exhibit distinct sensing properties. In γ‐ and ε‐WO3, analyte adsorption appears comparable; yet, only ε‐WO3 induces a pronounced lattice electronic perturbation that accommodates charge in sub‐conduction band minimum states.

Effects of equivalence ratio and dwell time on exhaust emissions from an experimental premixing prevaporizing burner [PDF]

open access: yes
A flame-tube study was performed to determine the effects of equivalence ratio and residence time on exhaust emissions with premixed, prevaporized propane fuel.
