Engine Control System for Lean Combustion
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1987<div class="htmlview paragraph">The basic structure of a new engine control system for lean combustion is presented. A fuel atomizer is adopted to obtain a uniform mixture of fine fuel droplets, 40µm in diameter. A new air-fuel ratio sensor and an integrated control method for air flow are developed for precise and rapid response control of ...

Concept of Lean Combustion by Barrel-Stratification
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1992<div class="htmlview paragraph">A novel leanburn concept, ‘Barrel-Stratification’ is proposed. Fuel is introduced into the cylinder through one of the intake ports of a dual-intake-valve engine of which the tumbling air motion is intensified by the sophisticated intake port design.

The influence of lean combustion and EGR on combustion and emissions of gasoline engine
2011 International Conference on Electric Information and Control Engineering, 2011Lean combustion and EGR were investigated on the performance and emissions of a four cylinder gasoline engine in part load. The results revealed that the ISFC and NO X emissions could be reduced by EGR and lean combustion. Considering the infections on combustion, lean combustion was better than EGR.

Combustion Instability at Lean Limit
2018In recent years gas engine manufacturers have faced stringent emission regulations on oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and unburned hydrocarbons (UHC) [1, 2]. Operating internal combustion engines at ultra-lean conditions can reduce NOx emissions and also improve thermal efficiency [3, 4].

Catalyst Selection for Lean Combustion Engines
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1987<div class="htmlview paragraph">A modeling procedure for selecting exhaust gas oxidation catalysts was applied to a lean air/fuel, high compression engine. The procedure was used to select the lowest cost catalyst that could meet given CVS C/H emission targets.

Lean SI Engines: The role of combustion variability in defining lean limits
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2007<div class="htmlview paragraph">Previous research has shown the potential benefits of running an engine with excess air. The challenges of running lean have also been identified, but not all of them have been fundamentally explained. Under high dilution levels, a lean limit is reached where combustion becomes unstable, significantly deteriorating

Combustion properties of aluminum-based oxidizer-lean propellants
2017The use of airbreathing devices in the first phase of an acceleration/launch mission provides several advantages with respect to traditional solid rocket motors, including consistent savings in terms of payload and costs. In a ducted rocket, fuel-rich combustion products of an oxidizer-lean propellant burning in a gas-generator, are ejected in the ...

Lean premixture combustion on a coaxial burner
Symposium (International) on Combustion, 1982The interaction between inner and external coaxial flames is experimentally investigated in detail. The minimum equivalence ratio, phi/sub t/, of CH/sub 4/-air premixtures (test premixtures) for complete combustion is measured as a function of the flow rate by the use of a small pilot flame whose equivalence ratio, phi/sub p/ is equal to unity or less.
