Feedback control of oscillations in combustion and cavity flows

open access: yes, 2010
This thesis considers the control of combustion oscillations, motivated by the susceptibility of lean premixed combustion to such oscillations, and the long and expensive development and commissioning times that this is giving rise to.

An Experimental and Numerical Study on Supported Ultra-Lean Methane Combustion

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
With a much larger global warming potential (GWP) and much shorter lifespan, the reduction of methane emissions offers an additional opportunity and a relatively quick way of mitigating climate change in the near future.

General comparison of pre-chamber jet ignition and spark ignition on combustion and emission characteristics of a methanol direct injection engine

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
Compared with spark ignition (SI), pre-chamber jet ignition (PCJI) can effectively accelerate the combustion and extend lean burn limit. In this paper, the effects of PCJI and SI on methanol direct injection engine were investigated experimentally ...

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.

LES/FGM investigation of ignition and flame structure in a gasoline partially premixed combustion engine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
This paper presents a joint numerical and experimental study of the ignition process and flame structures in a gasoline partially premixed combustion (PPC) engine. The numerical simulation is based on a five-dimension Flamelet-Generated Manifold (5D-FGM)

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

LES evaluation of the effects of equivalence ratio fluctuations on the dynamic flame response in a real gas turbine combustion chamber [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Large Eddy Simulations (LES) of a lean swirl-stabilized gas turbine burner are used to analyze mechanisms triggering combustion instabilities. To separately study the effect of velocity and equivalence ratio fluctuations, two LES of the same geometry are

Natural Bone‐Derived Ceramic Scaffolds Functionalized with Chitosan‐Gold, Chitosan‐Magnesium, and Chitosan‐Zinc for Enhanced Antibacterial Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports the development of antibacterial ceramic scaffolds derived from natural bovine bone. The bones were processed through sequential boiling and hydrogen peroxide treatment to remove organic matter, producing porous, mineral‐rich scaffolds.
