Effect of Calcium in Delimed Hide on Leather Quality
The efficient removal of calcium from delimed hide is essential to leather quality, but few reports have elaborated on how residual calcium in delimed hide affects leather quality. In this study, four delimed hides containing different calcium content were first prepared by using ammonium sulfate and sodium gluconate.

Usage Quality of Semi Processed Full Grain Leather
Springer Proceedings in Materials, 2022Full grain refers to the strongest and most durable part of the cattle hide, which is just below the hair and has not been sanded or buffed to remove any imperfections, which means it displays the more natural characteristics of leather. The grain has densely packed collagen fibres that are finer.

Potential of near-infrared spectroscopy for quality evaluation of cattle leather
Spectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy, 2018Models using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) were constructed based on physical-mechanical tests to determine the quality of cattle leather. The following official parameters were used, considering the industry requirements: tensile strength (TS), percentage elongation (%E), tear strength (TT), and double hole tear strength (DHS).

Evaluation of Goat Leather Quality Based on Computational Vision Techniques
Circuits, Systems, and Signal Processing, 2019The evaluation of finished (i.e., chemically treated) goat/sheep leather can be highly subjective, resulting in disagreements that can eventually lead to the interruption of production programs in the tannery and leather industry. As a result, much research has been carried out in the leather industry aiming at developing an automated system to ...

Quality control of leather by terahertz time-domain spectroscopy
Applied Optics, 2014We use terahertz time-domain spectroscopy, combined with effective-medium theory, to measure the moisture content and thickness of leather simultaneously. These results demonstrate that this method could become a standard quality control test for the industrial tanning process.
