Amplatzer left atrial appendage occlusion: single center 10-year experience

open access: yes, 2013
OBJECTIVES To report a 10-year single center experience with Amplatzer devices for left atrial appendage (LAA) occlusion. BACKGROUND Intermediate-term outcome data following LAA occlusion are scarce.

Zero‐Contrast Versus Contrast‐Guided Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion: A Comparative Analysis of Procedural and Long‐Term Outcomes

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
Zero‐contrast left atrial appendage occlusion yielded high procedural success and similar periprocedural adverse event rates compared to the contrast‐guided approach. At 45‐day follow‐up, successful LAA closure (defined as peri‐device leak ≤ 5 mm) and device‐related thrombus rates were similar.

Percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion: New perspectives for the method

open access: yes, 2017
Ischemic stroke is a common complication of atrial fibrillation (AF). Currently, oral anticoagulant drugs are the most commonly used method of stroke prevention. Left atrial appendage occlusion is thought to be the main source of thrombi in patients with

Minimally invasive epicardial left-ventricular lead implantation and simultaneous left atrial appendage closure

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2023
BackgroundAtrial fibrillation (AF) is common in patients with heart failure resulting in a high prevalence of AF in patients receiving Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) implantation.

Real‐World Treatment of Patients With Sinus Node Dysfunction and Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction

open access: yesPacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation is recommended in patients with sinus node dysfunction (SND). In patients with coexisting heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), clinicians may be hesitant to treat SND due to concerns about exacerbating heart failure.

Navigating the Zero Fluoroscopy Frontier: Current Tools, Evidence and Future Directions in Electrophysiology Procedures

open access: yesPacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
Graphical Abstract ABSTRACT Fluoroscopy has traditionally been the mainstay imaging technique for guidance during electrophysiology (EP) ablation procedures. The numerous disadvantages associated with radiation exposure for both operators and patients have created the need for zero‐fluoroscopy (ZF) approaches. Today, electrophysiologists have access to

Cost-effectiveness of left atrial appendage occlusion during cardiac surgery in France: An economic evaluation based on the LAAOS III study.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
ObjectivesLeft atrial appendage occlusion during cardiac surgery is a therapeutic option for stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation. The effectiveness and safety of left atrial appendage occlusion have been evaluated in several studies ...

Simultaneous Pulsed Field Ablation and Mechanical Closure of Left Atrial Appendage Using a Novel Device

open access: yesJACC: Case Reports, 2023
Left atrial appendage (LAA) was shown to harbor triggers and substrate for atrial arrhythmia, electrical isolation of the LAA can be a potential treatment.

Digital N‐of‐1 trials and their application in experimental physiology

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Traditionally, studies in experimental physiology have been conducted in small groups of human participants, animal models or cell lines. Identifying optimal study designs that achieve sufficient power for drawing proper statistical inferences to detect group level effects with small sample sizes has been challenging. Moreover, average effects

The influence of epicardial adipose tissue on the prognosis of atrial fibrillation patients undergoing radiofrequency ablation combined with left atrial appendage occlusion

open access: yesScientific Reports
Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia in adults. The interplay between epicardial adipose tissue and atrial fibrillation has garnered significant scientific interest.
