Comparative study of left atrium epicardial fat tissue pattern using persistent homology approach
Objective Atrial Fibrillation (A-fib) is an abnormal heartbeat condition in which the heart races and beats in an uncontrollable way. It is observed that the presence of increased epicardial fat/fatty tissue in the atrium can lead to A-fib.

Presbycusis: Pathology, Signal Pathways, and Therapeutic Strategy
In ARHL, the stria vascularis, acting as a cochlear battery, gradually loses its ability to maintain the endocochlear potential, leading to impaired hair cell function and progressive hearing loss. Single‐cell sequencing reveals age‐related cellular changes in the cochlea, providing insights into the underlying mechanisms of aging and potential ...

An overripe peach in the left atrium [PDF]
A 75-year-old man was referred to our institute due to an abdominal pain. The physical examination and radiological investigations revealed multiple stones in the common bile duct with biliary dilatation and cardiac mass ( Panel A ). At first, the patient underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatographic (ERCP) sphincterotomy, basketing ...

This study uses gut microbiome data to predict corticosteroid response in patients with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Fecal samples from 212 patients with ITP are sequenced. Six machine‐learning algorithms are used to train predictive models. The support vector machine‐based model integrated clinical data and selected microbial species, diversities ...

Abstract Objectives The objective of this study is to present our initial experience with a novel parenchymal clamp (NPC) developed to allow partial nephrectomies (PN) to be performed without whole kidney ischaemia. We compare patients who underwent PN with the NPC with those undergoing standard PNs. Methods The NPC applies pressure only to the portion

Generation of Artificial CT Images using Patch-based Conditional Generative Adversarial Networks [PDF]
Deep learning has a great potential to alleviate diagnosis and prognosis for various clinical procedures. However, the lack of a sufficient number of medical images is the most common obstacle in conducting image-based analysis using deep learning. Due to the annotations scarcity, semi-supervised techniques in the automatic medical analysis are getting

Left Atrial Paraganglioma in a Dog: Echocardiography, Surgery, and Scintigraphy [PDF]
Primary tumors of the left atrium are uncommon in dogs and tumor-specific diagnoses have been made only at necropsy. No reports have been found in which the diagnosis was confirmed antemortem and the tumor removed surgically. This report describes a case

The circRNA circNAB1 is downregulated in AF patient. Silencing circNAB1 promotes collagen deposition and inflammation, whereas overexpression reduces AF susceptibility. circNAB1 encodes the protein NAB1 356 that interacts with EGR1 to mitigate fibrosis and inflammation.

Combating Uncertainty with Novel Losses for Automatic Left Atrium Segmentation [PDF]
Segmenting left atrium in MR volume holds great potentials in promoting the treatment of atrial fibrillation. However, the varying anatomies, artifacts and low contrasts among tissues hinder the advance of both manual and automated solutions. In this paper, we propose a fully-automated framework to segment left atrium in gadolinium-enhanced MR volumes.
