The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Preverbal subjects in null subject languages are not necessarily dislocated

open access: yesJournal of Portuguese Linguistics, 2002
In recent work on null subject languages it has been claimed that preverbal subjects are always (clitic-)left dislocated. In this paper, we argue against this claim, on the grounds of empirical evidence from European Portuguese concerning agreement facts,

Generalized derivations of left faithful rings

open access: yesCommunications in Algebra, 1999
Let R be a left faithful ringU its right Utumi quotient ring and ρ a dense right ideal of R. An additive map g: ρ → U is called a generalized derivation if there exists a derivation δ of ρ into U such that for all x,y∈ρ. In this note, we prove that there exists an element a∈ U such that for all x ∈ ρ.

On Generalized Left Derivation on Semiprime Rings

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2016
Let R be a 2-torsion free semiprime ring. If R admits a generalizedleft derivation F associated with Jordan left derivation d, then R is commutative, if any one of the following conditions hold: (1) [d(x), F(y)] [x, y], (2) [d(x), F(y)] xoy, (3) d(x)oF(y) xoy, (4) d(x)oF(y) [x, y], for all x, yR.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Nonlinear Mixed Left Bi-Skew Jordan and Right Jordan-Type Derivations on ∗-Algebra

open access: yesMathematics
Consider a unital ∗-algebra A defined over the complex field C. In this work, we establish that a mapping, referred to as a nonlinear mixed left bi-skew Jordan and right Jordan n-derivation, reduces to an additive ∗-derivation under certain conditions ...
