Acute left ventricular dysfunction secondary to right ventricular septal pacing in a woman with initial preserved contractility: a case report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Introduction Right ventricular apical pacing-related heart failure is reported in some patients after long-term pacing. The exact mechanism is not yet clear but may be related to left ventricular dyssynchrony induced by right ventricular apical pacing ...

Revisiting the relationship between left ventricular ejection fraction and ventricular–arterial coupling [PDF]

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, 2020
AbstractThe aim of this article was to analyse in‐depth the relationship between left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (EF) (LVEF) and the most commonly used formulas for the calculation of LV elastance (Ees), volume intercept at 0 mmHg pressure (V0), effective arterial elastance (Ea), and ventricular–arterial coupling (VAC) as are validated today ...

Ischemic Myocardium Targeting Peptide‐Guided Nanobubbles for Multimodal Imaging and Treatment of Coronary Microvascular Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Nanobubbles functionalized with indocyanine green and ischemic myocardium‐targeting peptide effectively target cardiomyocytes and enable the multimodal (fluorescence, ultrasonic, and photoacoustic) imaging of ischemic myocardium in mice with coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD).

Age‐related changes in the coronary microcirculation influencing the diagnostic performance of invasive pressure‐based indices and long‐term patient prognosis

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, Volume 100, Issue 7, Page 1195-1205, December 1, 2022., 2022
Abstract Objectives Investigate age‐related changes in coronary microvascular function, its effect on hyperemic and non‐hyperemic indices of stenosis relevance, and its prognostic implications. Background Evidence assessing the effect of age on fractional flow reserve (FFR), resting mean distal intracoronary pressure/mean aortic pressure (Pd/Pa), and ...

Benefits of Permanent His Bundle Pacing Combined With Atrioventricular Node Ablation in Atrial Fibrillation Patients With Heart Failure With Both Preserved and Reduced Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2017
BackgroundClinical benefits from His bundle pacing (HBP) in heart failure patients with preserved and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction are still inconclusive.

Cardiac Organoid Model Inspired Micro‐Robot Smart Patch to Treat Myocardial Infarction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The heart organoid model exhibits the acidic microenvironment characteristic of myocardial infarction, which emerges as a pivotal force propelling the movement of micro‐robots. These micro‐robots, administered through microneedles, can penetrate deep into the tissue, effectively delivering therapeutic payloads to facilitate heart repair.

Coronary angiography of the ex‐situ beating donor heart in a portable organ care system

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, Volume 100, Issue 7, Page 1252-1260, December 1, 2022., 2022
Abstract Objectives To determine safety and feasibility of ex‐situ coronary angiography. Background To cater for the perpetually growing demand for heart donors, interest in donation following circulatory death (DCD) has been rekindled. Further pursuit of donor pool expansion has led to eligibility extension to “marginal” donors who are at higher risk ...

Fine-tuning pre-trained extractive QA models for clinical document parsing [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Electronic health records (EHRs) contain a vast amount of high-dimensional multi-modal data that can accurately represent a patient's medical history. Unfortunately, most of this data is either unstructured or semi-structured, rendering it unsuitable for real-time and retrospective analyses.

The Impact of Myocardial Infarction on Ventricular Function [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
Eighty one patients were studied using radionuclide ventriculography to study the effects of myocardial infarction (36 anterior and 45 inferior) on ventricular function during the early and convalescent phases.

Hyperdynamic left ventricular ejection fraction in the intensive care unit [PDF]

open access: yesCritical Care, 2015
Abstract Introduction Limited information exists on the etiology, prevalence, and significance of hyperdynamic left ventricular ejection fraction (HDLVEF) in the intensive care unit (ICU). Our aim in the present study was to compare characteristics and outcomes of patients with HDLVEF with those of patients with normal ...
