Left ventricular function in acute inflammatory peri-myocardial diseases – new insights and long-term follow-up

open access: yesCardiovascular Ultrasound, 2012
Background Until recently acute inflammatory peri-myocardial syndromes have been associated with global rather regional left ventricular (LV) dysfunction. Recent advances in cardiac imaging with echocardiographic techniques and magnetic resonance imaging

A Novel Mathematical/Numerical Formula for Assessing Right Ventricular Torsion Using Echocardiographic Imaging [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Recently, the ventricular torsional parameters have received special attention because of their significant role in the ventricular systolic and diastolic function. Right ventricular (RV) rotational deformation is a sensitive index for RV performance but difficult to measure.

Echocardiographic Evaluation of Ventricular Function—For the Neonatologist and Pediatric Intensivist

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2018
In the neonatal and pediatric intensive care setting, bedside cardiac ultrasound is often used to assess ventricular dimensions and function. Depending upon the underlying disease process, it is necessary to be able to evaluate the systolic and diastolic

An Anticoagulant Coating Based on a Block Phosphocholine Copolymer for Potential Applications in Blood Contact Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Anticoagulant properties are critical for blood‐compatible materials, and anticoagulant coatings are a common key issue for blood‐contacting medical devices. In this study, a block copolymer poly(2‐methacrylenoxyethyl phosphocholine‐b‐glycidyl) (PMPC‐b‐GMA) is synthesized, using reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (RAFT) and

ASB1 differential methylation in ischaemic cardiomyopathy. Relationship with left ventricular performance in end stage heart failure patients [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Aims: Ischaemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) leads to impaired contraction and ventricular dysfunction causing high rates of morbidity and mortality. Epigenomics allows the identification of epigenetic signatures in human diseases. We analyse the differential epigenetic patterns of ASB gene family in ICM patients and relate these alterations to their ...

Left Ventricular Endoaneurysmorrhaphy: Effect on Left Ventricular Size, Shape and Function

open access: yesCardiology, 1997
Left ventricular (LV) endoaneurysmorrhaphy is a relatively new surgical procedure with excellent results. Forty-five patients underwent surgical repair of LV aneurysm with LV endoaneurysmorrhaphy from 1991 to 1995. The main indication for operation was angina pectoris (71%). Concomitant myocardial revascularization was performed in 97% of the patients.

Lecithin Alleviates Memory Deficits and Muscle Attenuation in Chinese Older Adults and SAMP8 Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study opens a new avenue for safeguarding cognition and muscle health, averting disability in older age, and treating age‐related pathologies through lecithin supplementation. It serves as a promising nonpharmacological intervention for the crosstalk of muscle and cognition.

Neural Plasticity and Hearing‐Speech Development in Children with Auditory Brainstem Implants for Congenital Hearing Loss Due to Severe Inner Ear Malformation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Data from a prospective cohort with 112 auditory brainstem implant users are analyzed. Younger age at implantation (<3 years), less severe inner‐ear malformation (common cavity, cochlear aplasia, and hypoplasia), and more intraoperative eABR evoked electrodes (≥60%) are associated with better hearing and speech outcomes.
