On the Legibility of Segmented Numerals

open access: yesHuman Factors: The Journal of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, 1980
Research on the legibility of many new symbol configurations has not kept pace with their increasing use. Such novel configurations appear, for instance, in segmented numerals. This paper reports experiments on their discriminability. Perceptual confusions between members of pairs of seven-segment numerals decreased as these pairs differed in more line

Serifs and font legibility

open access: yesVision Research, 2005
Using lower-case fonts varying only in serif size (0%, 5%, and 10% cap height), we assessed legibility using size thresholds and reading speed. Five percentage serif fonts were slightly more legible than sans serif, but the average inter-letter spacing increase that serifs themselves impose, predicts greater enhancement than we observed.

Informacijske, normativne in fizične osnove urejanja prostora : Information, normative and physical bases of space management [PDF]

open access: yesGeodetski Vestnik, 2007
The findings presented from spatio-sociological perspective are intended to contribute to a more successful solving of questions concerning the order and disorder in (urban) space.

Ambiguïtés, erreurs et conséquences : « Rendre l’œuvre lisible »

open access: yesCeROArt : Conservation, Exposition, Restauration d'Objets d'Art, 2009
According to majors codes of ethic, the aim of restoration is to « facilitate the reading » or « the understanding » of the objects. The notion of legibility applied to paintings is questioned (and opposed to the notion of perception).

Factors Affecting Sign Visibility, Conspicuity, and Legibility

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Journal of Signage and Wayfinding, 2017
This paper summarizes published research studies, technical reports and codes and standards related to the visibility (i.e., conspicuity and legibility) of signage. In the summary that follows, publications are grouped and discussed according to several

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...
