Beyond Presumptions: Toward Mechanistic Clarity in Metal‐Free Carbon Catalysts for Electrochemical H2O2 Production via Data Science

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐free carbon catalysts enable the sustainable synthesis of hydrogen peroxide via two‐electron oxygen reduction; however, active site complexity continues to hinder reliable interpretation. This review critiques correlation‐based approaches and highlights the importance of orthogonal experimental designs, standardized catalyst passports ...

Crystal Growth Engineering for Dendrite‐Free Zinc Metal Plating

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This research employed the rare‐earth ion dysprosium (Dy) to modulate aqueous zinc (Zn) metal plating. Integrated multiscale experiments and computational modeling unveiled the preferential adsorption of Dy on specific crystal facets, which activated screw dislocation‐driven Zn growth.

Exploring the legitimacy of industry-led farm animal welfare governance using examples of Canadian and United States dairy standards

open access: yesAnimal Welfare
The governance of farm animal welfare is led, in certain countries and sectors, by industry organisations. The aim of this study was to analyse the legitimacy of industry-led farm animal welfare governance focusing on two examples: the Code of Practice ...

New Labour, New Legitimacy? The ‘making punishment work’ agenda and the limits of penal reform [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In this paper I consider the thorny question of whether the policies and penal reforms undertaken by the New Labour government in the last ten years have made the penal system more legitimate.

Electrically Assisted Thermal Stamping of Tunable Carbon‐Based Nanofilms for Direct Fabrication of Hydrophobic, Energy Harvesting, and Sensing Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of the electrically assisted thermal stamping (EATS) method for direct fabrication of carbon‐based nanofilms and their multifunctional applications. Localized Joule heating triggers simultaneous exfoliation, reduction, and fluoropolymer incorporation under ambient conditions, yielding tunable carbon‐based thin‐film coatings ...

The European Union in search of political identity and legitimacy: Is more Politics the Answer? [PDF]

open access: yes
The problems of identity and legitimacy in the EU are significant, but tangentially interconnected. The problems for EU identity derive not solely from the fact that European citizens have not developed much sense of being European because they have not ...

Light‐Induced Entropy for Secure Vision

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work realized a ternary true random number generator by exploiting stochastic traps emerging within multiple junction interfaces, and quantitatively validated the generation of high‐quality random numbers. Furthermore, it successfully demonstrated diverse applications, including AI‐resilient image security, thereby providing a valuable guide for ...

Crisis as opportunity—manifestations of civic practice in Libyan governance and rule of law

open access: yesFrontiers in Political Science
In Libya’s protracted conflict, authoritarian, illiberal, and democratic practises exist at local and (inter)national levels. The repeated occurrence of crises in governance and rule of law, such as sudden restrictions on civil society or deferred ...

All‐Optical Reconfigurable Physical Unclonable Function for Sustainable Security

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐optical reconfigurable physical unclonable function (PUF) is demonstrated using plasmonic coupling–induced sintering of optically trapped gold nanoparticles, where Brownian motion serves as a robust entropy source. The resulting optical PUF exhibits high encoding density, strong resistance to modeling attacks, and practical authentication ...
