Gatekeepers of the Future: The Role of Corporate Venture Capital in Corporate Artificial Intelligence Adoptions

open access: yesStrategic Change, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study extends absorptive capacity research by showing how corporate venture capital (CVC) investments enable corporate artificial intelligence (AI) adoption through collaboration pathways, delineated in four adoption archetypes that explain how heterogeneous AI knowledge is absorbed.

Gait alterations increase friction of degenerated articular cartilage: A tribological study

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To investigate the effect of gait alterations associated with osteoarthritis (OA) on the frictional properties of porcine articular cartilage (AC) in intact and degenerative conditions. Methods Forty‐eight cylindrical AC samples were harvested from 12 porcine femur condyles and equally divided between four groups with n = 12 samples ...

Effect of Heat Treatment Parameters on Microstructure, Hardness, and Corrosion Resistance of Martensitic Stainless Steel X30Cr13 (AISI 420B)

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
The hardness and corrosion resistance of the martensitic stainless steel X30Cr13 depend directly on the applied heat treatment. This article describes and discusses the relationships between alloy composition, thermodynamic phase stabilities, heat treatment parameters, resulting microstructures, and achievable corrosion resistance. To investigate these

VPS13A Deficiency Leads to Impaired Lipid Distribution and Alteration of Mitochondrial Calcium Homeostasis in Fibroblasts of VPS13A Disease Patients

open access: yesMovement Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Membrane contact sites are crucial for the exchange of ions or lipids and thus are critical for the function and maintenance of organelles. VPS13A is a membrane‐residing, bridge‐like protein connecting two membranes to enable bulk lipid transfer. Loss‐of‐function mutations in the VPS13A gene cause VPS13A disease.

Different from the start: key dimensions of seedling traits of central European temperate grassland species

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Plant traits and their tradeoffs are major determinants of plant functions. Although trait‐based frameworks should apply to plant functioning at any life stage, they have been primarily established for adult plants. Therefore, we lack comprehensive trait‐based studies of seedlings across multiple species to prove which key dimensions of trait variation

Seed co‐occurrence caused by shared frugivores leaves a long‐lasting signal in the spatial co‐occurrence among plants

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
By dispersing seeds, frugivorous animals affect spatial co‐occurrence of plants, ultimately influencing plant community dynamics. Frugivorous animals are intrinsically involved in plant community dynamics, by dispersing seeds of fleshy‐fruited plants and influencing their spatial co‐occurrence.

Habitat‐based spatial patterns enable realistic reconstruction of plant spatial arrangements across complex landscapes

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Spatially explicit individual‐based models provide a powerful way to explore spatial dynamics when direct observation is not feasible. But for many ecological applications, these models require detailed data on the initial spatial arrangement and traits of individuals – information rarely available in large, heterogeneous or novel landscapes.

Bridging the gap between science, policy and stakeholders: Towards sustainable wolf–livestock coexistence in human‐dominated landscapes

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract While the return of wolves (Canis lupus) to many European countries is a conservation milestone, the negative impacts are unevenly distributed across society, placing high pressure on livestock grazing systems. For this perspective, scientists from diverse disciplines and geographical backgrounds reflect on the state of livestock–wolf ...
