Leishmania infecting man and wild animals in Saudi Arabia. 2. Leishmania arabica n. sp.
Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1986Leishmania arabica n. sp., found in the rodent Psammomys obesus in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, is described. This parasite, which has also been found in a feral dog in the same area, is distinguished from the common species of the Eastern Province, L.

Effects of HIV aspartyl-proteinase inhibitors on Leishmania sp.
Experimental Parasitology, 2010In this work, we have found an antiproliferative effect on Leishmania sp. promastigotes and axenic amastigotes by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) aspartyl-proteinase inhibitors, Ac-Leu-Val-Phenylalaninal, Saquinavir mesylate and Nelfinavir, the latter two being used as part of antiretroviral therapy.

Cultivation of Leishmania sp. in nutrient broth.
Journal of the Egyptian Society of Parasitology, 1995Bone-marrow aspiration and biopsy material samples obtained from two patients, one diagnosed as visceral and other as cutaneous leishmaniasis, were inoculated in Novy, McNeal, Nicolle (NNN) medium and nutrient broth (NB), containing fetal calf serum (FCS), penicillin and streptomycine.

Use of flow cytometry to quantify intracellular Leishmania sp.
2022The search for new methodologies that make the work in the search for new drugs more precise, agile, and with greater standardization is very important to the study of leishmaniasis. The technique most used to assess the leishmanicidal effect of a given drug in vitro, the slide count, despite being consolidated in the scientific environment, presents ...

Leishmania sp.:Growth and Survival Are Impaired by Ion Channel Blockers
Experimental Parasitology, 1998In the present work we examined the effect of ion transport blockers on the growth and viability of Leishmania sp. and on the infection of macrophages by the parasite. 4-aminopyridine and glibenclamide block voltage-dependent and K+ ATP channels, respectively; amiloride is used to detect Na+ channels and Na+/H+ antiporters; and anthracene-9-carboxylic ...

A mathematical model of murine macrophage infected with Leishmania sp
2018 IEEE International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedicine (BIBM), 2018Infection by Leishmania can cause diseases ranging from self-healing cutaneous to visceral dissemination that can lead to death if untreated. In order to explore the early phase of the infection and the role of macrophages, we implement a system of differential equations involving the major players in the innate immune response to leishmaniasis (i.e ...

Comparative analysis of the nitric oxide production by Leishmania sp.
Medical Microbiology and Immunology, 2003The present report explores a comparative analysis of nitric oxide (NO(*)) production by three different species of Leishmania (L. amazonensis, L. braziliensis and L. chagasi). Among these species, L. braziliensis produced the highest amount of NO(*), measured in the supernatants of promastigotes cultures as nitrite, a stable by-product derived from NO(
