Visceral leishmaniasis as a rare cause of granulomatous hepatitis

open access: yesJPGN Reports, Volume 5, Issue 2, Page 200-203, May 2024.
Abstract Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is a potentially fatal infection caused by species of Leishmania. It is characterized by fever, weight loss, anemia, and enlargement of the spleen and liver. Hepatitis due to VL is one of the causes of granulomatous hepatitis rarely described in the literature. It poses a problem of differential diagnosis with other

In vitro evaluation of antileishmanial activity of Boswellia serrata essential oil nanoliposome

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 10, Issue 2, March 2024.
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Boswellia serrata (B. serrata) essential oil nanoliposomes on Leishmania tropica (L. tropica) in vitro. At 1 μg/mL dose, B. serrata essence caused 17 ± 1.73% mortality, while B. serrata nanoliposomes induced 26 ± 1.15% mortality. B.

Multilocus Microsatellite Typing reveals intra-focal genetic diversity among strains of Leishmania tropica in Chichaoua Province, Morocco [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In Morocco, cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) caused by Leishmania (L.) tropica is a major public health threat. Strains of this species have been shown to display considerable serological, biochemical, molecular biological and genetic heterogeneity; and ...

A Set of Discrete Formulae for the Performance of a Tsetse Population During Aerial Spraying [PDF]

open access: yesActa Tropica, 125: 202-213, 2013, 2014
A set of discrete formulae that calculates the hypothetical impact of aerial spraying on a tsetse population is derived and the work is thought to be novel. Both the original population and the subsequent generations which survive the aerial spraying, may ultimately be thought of as deriving from two, distinct sources.

Promastigote secretory gel from natural and unnatural sand fly vectors exacerbate Leishmania major and Leishmania tropica cutaneous leishmaniasis in mice

open access: yesParasitology, 2019
Leishmania rely heavily on glycans to complete their digenetic life cycle in both mammalian and phlebotomine sand fly hosts. Leishmania promastigotes secrete a proteophosphoglycan-rich gel (Promastigote Secretory Gel, PSG) that is regurgitated during ...

Leishmania major Infection in Synanthropic Rodents: Evidence for the Urbanization of Zoonotic Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (ZCL) in Southern Iran

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Cutaneous leishmaniasis is of particular importance in southern Iran. This study aimed to investigate the infection of rodents with Leishmania major in an urban area of Fars Province, located in southern Iran. Rodents were trapped and samples from the liver, spleen, and skin were collected.

DNA plasmid coding for Phlebotomus sergenti salivary protein PsSP9, a member of the SP15 family of proteins, protects against Leishmania tropica

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2019
Background The vector-borne disease leishmaniasis is transmitted to humans by infected female sand flies, which transmits Leishmania parasites together with saliva during blood feeding.

A Model of Teneral Dehydration in Glossina [PDF]

open access: yesActa Tropica, 131: 79-91, 2014, 2013
The results of a long-established investigation into teneral transpiration are used as a rudimentary data set. These data are not complete in that all are at 25 $^\circ\mathrm{C}$ and the temperature-dependence cannot, therefore be resolved. An allowance is, nonetheless, made for the outstanding temperature-dependent data.
