Motion and Morphology Planning for Autonomous Manipulation in Clutter With a Shape‐Shifting, Variable‐Stiffness Robot

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A hybrid mobile robot with a modular Variable‐Stiffness Bridge transitions between a rigid locomotion platform and a flexible, shape‐conforming body. By enclosing objects within its deformable structure rather than relying on dedicated end effectors, the robot achieves orientation‐regulated planar transport, with conformal contact quality shown to ...

Distributed State Estimation for Mobile Robots in LiDAR Sensor Networks With Intermittent Inertial Measurements

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A scalable distributed observer framework for LiDAR sensor networks is presented for robust tracking and pose estimation of mobile robots. By combining adaptable 3D detection, clustering‐based communication reduction, and intermittent inertial fusion, accurate and efficient estimation is achieved under occlusions and sensing constraints, with formally ...

How cold is too cold? A theoretical analysis of the optimal trigger for index insurance for frost damage to crops

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Crop insurance is undoubtedly an extremely valuable element in protecting agricultural businesses, but in many cases standard indemnity‐based products have had very low uptake due to high transaction costs elevating premiums to unaffordable levels.

Selecting an Initial Lemma List in Specialized Lexicography: A Case Study in the Field of Graphic Engineering

open access: yesLexikos, 2020
Specialized lexicography in graphic engineering has never had a tool in dictionary format that facilitates knowledge acquisition for students and meets their specific lexicographic needs in a technical university context. This paper presents an initial lemma list for a Spanish dictionary in the field of graphic engineering.

Firm turnover under asymmetric information: Tanzania's agro‐dealer sector

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract We study firm turnover (i.e., entry and exit) and its consumer implications in a market characterized by asymmetric information. Using a three‐round census of agro‐dealers in Tanzania's Morogoro Region, we document annual firm entry and exit rates of 33% and 17%, respectively.

A curve selection lemma in spaces of arcs and the image of the Nash map [PDF]

open access: yesCompositio Mathematica, 2006
We prove a finiteness result in the space of arcs X∞ of a singular variety X, which is an extension of the stability result of Denef and Loeser (Germs of arcs on singular algebraic varieties and motivic integration, Invent. Math. 135 (1999), 201-232). From this follows a Curve selection lemma for generically stable subsets of X∞.

Credit Risk Management Of Portfolio And Distance To Default Estimation Based On Firm Equity Approach [PDF]

open access: yesMathematics and Modeling in Finance
In this paper, the credit risk of investment is managed by a new structural mean-reverting model. For this purpose, the utility maximization problem is expressed as an optimization problem with an expected logarithmic objective function and a mean ...

Performance improvement of discrete‐time linear‐quadratic regulators applied to uncertain linear systems using the Tikhonov regularization method

open access: yesAsian Journal of Control, EarlyView.
Abstract The linear‐quadratic regulator (LQR) problem of optimal control of an uncertain discrete‐time linear system (DTLS) is revisited in this paper from the perspective of Tikhonov regularization. We show that an optimally chosen regularization parameter reduces, compared to the classical LQR, the values of a scalar error function, as well as the ...
