Sugarcane phosphorus (P) availability is limited in tropical soils, requiring strategies to improve fertilizer efficiency. This study evaluated Bacillus velezensis UFV 3918 (Bv) in combination with an organomineral fertilizer (OF) at reduced monoammonium phosphate (MAP) doses. It showed that Bv + OF + 1/3 MAP achieved soil and plant P levels comparable

Spring fever: collared lemmings warm up above the snow despite predation risk
Small mammals inhabiting cold climates face high heat losses and thus, high energy demands for body temperature regulation. However, behavioral adaptations, such as seeking refuge from extreme cold in the subnivean space, can reduce the energetic cost of

Cyclic population fluctuations are common in boreal and Arctic species but the causes of these cycles are still debated today. Among these species, lemmings are Arctic rodents that live and reproduce under the snow and whose large cyclical population ...

Arctic fox dispersal from Svalbard to Canada: one female’s long run across sea ice
We report the first satellite tracking of natal dispersal by an Arctic fox (Vulpes lagopus) between continents and High-Arctic ecosystems. A young female left Spitsbergen (Svalbard Archipelago, Norway) on 26 March 2018 and reached Ellesmere Island ...

Tephrocactus Lem.: — Kiesling (1984) and Rodríguez et al. (2018) placed Tephrocactus nigrispinus (K.Schum.) Backeb. within the genus Maihueniopsis. This assumption was not supported by molecular studies (Wallace & Dickie 2002, Griffith & Porter 2009, Ritz et al. 2012).

Grasslands, by definition, are dominated by graminoids. Nevertheless, forbs also make up a substantial part of vascular plant diversity in grasslands and are important resources of mammalian herbivores. However, forb recruitment is constrained by successful dominant graminoids, limiting access to safe sites for germination.

Herbivore decline switches a high Arctic plant community from top‐down to bottom‐up control
Declining abundance of large herbivores in the Arctic loosens the top‐down control on the vegetation, which now responds primarily to the changing climatic conditions and follows the general greening pattern observed in a warming Arctic. These changes may impact terrestrial ecosystem element cycling, with knock‐on effects on the dynamics in adjacent ...

ABSTRACT Increasing phosphorus (P) fertilizer use efficiency from bio‐based waste products (i.e., recycled amendments) requires promoting a larger proportion of bioavailable P in soil for plant uptake. Therefore, this study aimed to elucidate how recycled amendment P solubility and movement vary when interfaced with soils of contrasting characteristics.

Rainfall and Rain‐on‐Snow Events Over Greenland in Summer: Climatology, Trends, Synoptics
Abstract Rain‐on‐snow (ROS) events in the Arctic can lead to major impacts on the snow cover, cryosphere and environment. During the last decades, these events have significantly increased, mostly due to climate change. Here, we use outputs from the regional climate model MAR (version 3.14) driven by the ERA5 reanalysis at 10‐km resolution over ...

Background Mitochondrial and nuclear genes have generally been employed for different purposes in molecular systematics, the former to resolve relationships within recently evolved groups and the latter to investigate phylogenies at a deeper level.
