Phytotoxicity of silver nanoparticles to Lemna minor L

Environmental Pollution, 2011
The use of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in commercial products has increased significantly in recent years. Although there has been some attempt to determine the toxic effects of AgNPs, there is little information on aquatic plants which have a vital role in ecosystems. This study reports the use of Lemna minor L.

Bioremoval of Aqueous Lead UsingLemna Minor

International Journal of Phytoremediation, 2008
The aquatic plant Lemna minor (duckweed) was examined for its ability to sorb soluble lead from water under laboratory conditions. The use of biomass as a sorption medium provides a simple alternative separation technology. Laboratory-scale (700-mL) batch reactors containing soil-based sediments were used to expose L.

Interpretation of Adaptive Plasticity in Lemna minor

Oikos, 1992
The adaptive significance of plasticity was evaluated for eight genotypes of Lemna minor L. based on two inter-related assumptions: a display of plasticity in the form of increased growth rate after environmental amelioration is directly more adaptive than an absence of plasticity; and a display of plasticity in the form of decreased growth rate after ...

The systems over of double concentric membranes given in relation to forming are brought in the cages of Lemna minor L. from river Zbruch is in the conditions of complex contamination of water by heavy metals. The set correlation is between the dynamics of maintenance in the duckweed of heavy metals and size of radius of her cages, and also expressed ...

Morphological differentiation and geographical distribution of the Lemna gibba-lemna minor group

Aquatic Botany, 1975
Abstract A 100 strains of Lemna gibba L. s.l. and 350 strains of L. minor L. s.l. have been morphologically investigated from a collection of living strains. The following characters have been considered (Table I): shape and size of root-cap, shape and size of fronds, structure of the upper surface, gibbosity, innervation, pigmentation and turion

Comparison of Lemna gibba and Lemna minor from the production ecological viewpoint

Aquatic Botany, 1975
The production capacity and competitive ability in two duckweed species (Lemna gibba L. and L. minor L.), both originating from South Bohemian fishponds, are compared. The results of both laboratory and field experiments have proved that the relative growth rate (RGR) of Lemna gibba exceeds that of L. minor.

TRANSLOCATION EXPERIMENTS IN THE FIELD WITH THE LEMNA GIBBA - LEMNA MINOR COMPLEX

Acta Botanica Neerlandica, 1974
SUMMARY Translocation of a clone of the flat form of the Lemna gibba – Lemna minor complex to the site of a gibbous population resulted in a persistence of the flat form, which is indicative of a genetical basis of the frond shape of this flat clone.

Quizalofop-p-ethyl-induced phytotoxicity and genotoxicity inLemna minorandLemna gibba

Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part A, 2012
In this study, the effects of the herbicide, quizalofop-p-ethyl, on pigment contents (total chlorophyll, chlorophyll a/b, carotenoid), antioxidant enzyme [superoxide dismutase (SOD) and guaiacol peroxidase (POD)] activities, lipid peroxidation product (malondialdehyde: MDA) and DNA profiles were investigated in Lemna gibba and Lemna minor.
