Does the influenza vaccine prevent sequelae such as myocarditis from developing?

open access: yesJournal of Global Infectious Diseases, 2015
Vaccination continues to be a valuable and simple procedure to guard patients from an illness that may prevent them from completing their normal everyday tasks, missing days of work, and even lead to unnecessary sequelae. The following case describes one

Analysis of comprehensive genomic profiling of solid tumors with a novel assay for broad analysis in clinical diagnostics

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In molecular cancer diagnostics, comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) is going to replace the small NGS panels since it provides all clinically relevant somatic variants as well as genomic biomarkers with clinical value. Here, we compared two CGP assays and demonstrate that the choice for diagnostic implementation will depend on the specific ...

Determinants of the Length of Stay in Stroke Patients

open access: yesOsong Public Health and Research Perspectives, 2013
The study objective was to identify the factors that influence the length of stay (LOS) in hospital for stroke patients and to provide data for managing hospital costs by managing the LOS.This study used data from the Discharge Injury Survey of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which included 17,364 cases from 2005 to 2008.The LOS ...

Peripheral blood proteome biomarkers distinguish immunosuppressive features of cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Immune status significantly influences cancer progression. This study used plasma proteomics to analyze benign 67NR and malignant 4T1 breast tumor models at early and late tumor stages. Immune‐related proteins–osteopontin (Spp1), lactotransferrin (Ltf), calreticulin (Calr) and peroxiredoxin 2 (Prdx2)–were associated with systemic myeloid‐derived ...

Rapid decrease in length of stay in institutional care for older people in Sweden between 2006 and 2012: results from a population-based study.

open access: yesHealth and Social Care in the community, 2016
There is limited knowledge about older people's length of stay (time until death) in institutional care and how it has changed over time. The aim of this study was to analyse changes in the length of stay for older people in institutional care between ...

TOMM20 as a driver of cancer aggressiveness via oxidative phosphorylation, maintenance of a reduced state, and resistance to apoptosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.
