Diffractive multifocal intraocular lens implantation in eyes with a small-diameter pupil [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
AbstractPostoperative outcome of diffractive multifocal intraocular lens (MIOL) implantation in eyes with a small-diameter pupil was evaluated. This non randomized case series involved 23 eyes of 23 patients who underwent diffractive MIOL implantation and whose preoperative photopic pupil diameter was ≤3.0 mm [small-diameter pupil (SDP) group], and 79 ...

Effect of Oxygen Content on Surface and Subsurface Integrity During Turning of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how oxygen content in the ambient atmosphere affects the surface and subsurface properties of Ti–6Al–4V during turning. Results show that oxygen does not influence surface roughness. However, machining in an extremely high vacuum‐adequate atmosphere increases surface hardness by up to 7.8% and induces compressive residual stresses ...

Relationship between lens morphology and axial length in adolescents

open access: yesDi-san junyi daxue xuebao, 2021
Objective To investigate the change rules of lens by analyzing the relationship between lens morphology and axial length in adolescents. Methods A total of 285 adolescents (6~18 years old, 570 eyes) who visited our ophthalmological department from May to

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

The role of Lambda in the cosmological lens equation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The cosmological constant Lambda affects cosmological gravitational lensing. Effects due to Lambda can be studied in the framework of the Schwarzschild-de Sitter spacetime.

Four‐Point Bending Tests at High Temperatures on Commercial MgO‐C Refractory Bricks with and Without Recyclate Considering Different Carbon Contents

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

Flexible Photonic Nanojet Formed by Cylindrical Graded-Index Lens

open access: yesCrystals, 2019
Photonic nanojets formed in the vicinity of the cylindrical graded-index lens with different types of index grading are numerically investigated based on the finite-difference time-domain method. The cylindrical lens with 1600 nm diameter is assembled by

Measuring angular diameter distances of strong gravitational lenses

open access: yes, 2015
The distance-redshift relation plays a fundamental role in constraining cosmological models. In this paper, we show that measurements of positions and time delays of strongly lensed images of a background galaxy, as well as those of the velocity ...
