A slow bar in the lenticular barred galaxy NGC 4277 [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2022
Aims.We characterised the properties of the bar hosted in lenticular galaxy NGC 4277, which is located behind the Virgo cluster.Methods.We measured the bar length and strength from the surface photometry obtained from the broad-band imaging of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and we derived the bar pattern speed from the stellar kinematics obtained from ...

The SLUGGS Survey: Understanding Lenticular Galaxy Formation via Extended Stellar Kinematics

open access: yesGalaxies, 2017
We present the latest published and preliminary results from the SLUGGS Survey discussing the formation of lenticular galaxies through analysis of their kinematics.

Lack of FIBRILLIN6 in Arabidopsis thaliana affects light acclimation and sulfate metabolism

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 225, Issue 4, Page 1715-1731, February 2020., 2020
Summary Arabidopsis thaliana contains 13 fibrillins (FBNs), which are all localized to chloroplasts. FBN1 and FBN2 are involved in photoprotection of photosystem II, and FBN4 and FBN5 are thought to be involved in plastoquinone transport and biosynthesis, respectively. The functions of the other FBNs remain largely unknown.

Hidden Imprints of Minor Merging in Early-Type Galaxies: Inner Polar Rings and Inclined Large-Scale Gaseous Disks In S0s

open access: yesGalaxies, 2015
I discuss my latest observational data and ideas about decoupled gaseous subsystems in nearby lenticular galaxies. As an extreme case of inclined gaseous disks, I demonstrate a sample of inner polar disks, derive their incidence, about 10% among the ...

Outer stellar disks of lenticular galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2011
AbstractBy studying the radial distribution of the properties of stellar populations in 15 nearby S0 galaxies, I have found that the outer stellar disks are mostly old, with SSP-equivalent ages of 8–15 Gyr, often being older than the bulges. This fact throws doubt on the currently accepted paradigm that S0 galaxies were formed at z=0.4 through the ...

Phenomenological approach to the modelling of elliptical galaxies: The problem of the mass-to-light ratio [PDF]

open access: yesSerbian Astronomical Journal, 2007
In this paper the problem of the phenomenological modelling of elliptical galaxies using various available observational data is presented. Recently, Tortora, Cardona and Piedipalumbo (2007) suggested a double power law expression for the global ...

The Gas Kinematics, Excitation, and Chemistry, in Connection with Star Formation, in Lenticular Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 2019
We present long-slit and panoramic spectroscopy of extended gaseous disks in 18 S0 galaxies, mostly in groups. The gas has often decoupled kinematics: at least five galaxies demonstrate strongly inclined large-scale ionized gas disks, seven galaxies ...

One Piece at a Time—Adding to the Puzzle of S0 Formation

open access: yesGalaxies, 2017
Understanding the origin of galaxies remains a topic of debate in the current astronomy. In this work, we have focused on lenticular (S0) galaxies located in low-density environments, using their associated globular cluster (GC) systems as a tool ...

S-PLUS: LEnticular Galaxies in Stripe 82

open access: yes, 2021
This work is a Brazilian-Indian collaboration. It aims at investigating the structuralproperties of Lenticular galaxies in the Stripe 82 using a combination of S-PLUS (Southern Photometric Local Universe Survey) and SDSS data. S-PLUS is a noveloptical multi-wavelength survey which will cover nearly 8000 square degrees of the Southern hemisphere in the ...

Globular Clusters in Lenticular Galaxies: NGC 3115 [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1988
We present a progress report for the ongoing study of the globular cluster (GC) system around the edge-on lenticular galaxy NGC 3115. This object is one of the best targets for this kind of investigation, due to its proximity (~ 10 Mpc) and favourable inclination (for a deep photometric study and a review of the properties of NGC 3115, see Capaccioli ...
