Reviewing Challenges in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Lentigo Maligna and Lentigo-Maligna Melanoma [PDF]

open access: yesRare Cancers and Therapy, 2015
Lentigo maligna (LM) and lentigo-maligna melanoma (LMM) are pigmented skin lesions that may exist on a continuous clinical and pathological spectrum of melanocytic skin cancer. LM is often described as a "benign" lesion and is accepted as a melanoma in situ; LM can undergo malignant transformation to particularly aggressive melanoma. LMM is an invasive

Global consensus on the management of melanin hyperpigmentation disorders

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, Volume 40, Issue 5, Page 760-772, May 2026.
A global Delphi consensus of 10 dermatology experts established evidence‐based recommendations for melanin hyperpigmentation disorders, providing unified classification, photoprotection guidance and treatment algorithms. This framework harmonizes terminology and supports individualized management across diverse skin types and health systems.

Microinvasive lentigo maligna melanoma

open access: yesJournal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 1987
Ninety-one skin biopsy specimens previously identified as lentigo maligna were examined for the presence of microinvasion, using the demonstration of S100 protein within atypical cells as the means for locating these superficial foci. In 14 cases, atypical melanocytes were identified, most often in the papillary dermis.

Immunotherapy Administration and Survival for Stage IV Melanoma Patients at Minority‐Serving Hospitals

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Immunotherapy has transformed outcomes in stage IV melanoma, yet disparities in access persist. Minority‐serving hospitals (MSH) disproportionately care for socioeconomically disadvantaged and minority patients, but their impact on immunotherapy use and survival in melanoma is not well defined.

Robustness of a convolutional neural network trained on dermoscopic images and challenged with close‐up images

open access: yesJDDG: Journal der Deutschen Dermatologischen Gesellschaft, Volume 24, Issue 4, Page 504-513, April 2026.
Summary Background and Objectives Deep learning‐convolutional neural networks (DL‐CNNs) have demonstrated high diagnostic accuracy within the domain of dermoscopy. However, many clinical settings lack dermoscopic devices, requiring reliance on close‐up images. This study evaluates the robustness of a DL‐CNN trained on dermoscopic images when challenged

Desmoplastic melanoma associated with an intraepidermal lentiginous lesion: case report and literature review Melanoma desmoplásico associado a lesão lentiginosa intraepidérmica, com evolução de 10 anos: relato de caso e revisão bibliográfica

open access: yesAnais Brasileiros de Dermatologia, 2013
Desmoplastic melanoma tends to present as firm, amelanotic papules. Microscopically, it reveals a proliferation of fusiform cells in the dermis and variable collagen deposition, as well as intraepidermal melanocytic proliferation of lentiginous type in ...
