Ontogeny of the elemental composition and the biomechanics of radular teeth in the chiton Lepidochitona cinerea [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Zoology, 2022
Background The radula, a chitinous membrane with embedded teeth, is one important molluscan autapomorphy. In some taxa (Polyplacophora and Patellogastropoda) one tooth type (the dominant lateral tooth) was studied intensively in the last decades with ...

Chromosomes of Lepidochitona caprearum (Scacchi, 1836) (Polyplacophora, Acanthochitonina, Tonicellidae) provide insights into Acanthochitonina karyological evolution [PDF]

open access: yesComparative Cytogenetics, 2012
We describe the karyotype, location of nucleolus-organizing regions (NORs) and heterochromatin composition and distribution in Lepidochitona caprearum (Scacchi, 1836).

Development of the excretory system in a polyplacophoran mollusc: stages in metanephridial system development [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Zoology, 2012
Background Two types of excretory systems, protonephridia and metanephridial systems are common among bilaterians. The homology of protonephridia of lophotrochozoan taxa has been widely accepted.

Lepidochitona granpoderi sp. nov. (Mollusca: Polyplacophora) from the Atlantic coast of Morocco

open access: yesZoosystematica Rossica, 2022
A new chiton species, Lepidochitona granpoderi sp. nov., is described from the Atlantic coast of Morocco. It differs from other congeners in having 5–7 very short vestiges of ribs converging apically on the dorsal girdle corpuscules and longitudinal rows of granules converging to jugum in the central and antemucronal areas of the valves.
