Axial filament involvement in the motility of Leptospira interrogans [PDF]
Motility mutants of Leptospira interrogans serovar illini were isolated and analyzed by dark-field and electron microscopy. Mutants were obtained by screening for small colonies after nitrosoguanidine treatment. One class of mutants did not have hook- or spiral-shaped ends. In addition, the axial filaments from these mutants were not coiled.

Effects of Culling onLeptospira interrogansCarriage by Rats [PDF]
We found that lethal, urban rat control is associated with a significant increase in the odds that surviving rats carry Leptospira interrogans. Our results suggest that human interventions have the potential to affect and even increase the prevalence of zoonotic pathogens within rat populations.

Seroepidemiolodical study of Leptospira interrogans infection of cattle in North Algeria
This work, a seroepidemiological study on the infection by L. interrogans was conducted in cattle farms of the area of Algiers. A total of 19 farms, randomly selected, were investigated and 205 cattle serums were collected and tested both by the MAT and ...

Genome sequence of the saprophyte Leptospira biflexa provides insights into the evolution of Leptospira and the pathogenesis of leptospirosis. [PDF]
Leptospira biflexa is a free-living saprophytic spirochete present in aquatic environments. We determined the genome sequence of L. biflexa, making it the first saprophytic Leptospira to be sequenced. The L.

Comparison of Leptospira interrogans and Leptospira biflexa genomes: analysis of potential leptospiral-host interactions [PDF]
Leptospirosis, a potentially life-threatening disease, remains the most widespread zoonosis caused by pathogenic species of Leptospira. The pathogenic spirochaete, Leptospira interrogans, is characterized by its ability to permeate human host tissues ...

Macroscopic haematuria in horses associated with Leptospira interrogans infection [PDF]
Haematuria is a serious clinical manifestation of urinary system disease, occurring in micro or macroscopic forms. In this article two cases of macroscopic haematuria associated with Leptospira interrogans serogroup Canicola infection are related.
