Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Measure Less, Succeed More: A Zen Approach to Organisational Balance and Effectiveness

open access: yesPhilosophy of Management, 2007
Over the last decade, managers have placed increasing emphasis on the creation of tangible measures of intangible organizational properties. Many major corporations now include measures for intellectual capital, knowledge capital, reputational capital, and other such intangible assets on their financial ledgers.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Mechanical behaviors of cement systems in different conditions

open access: yesNatural Gas Industry B, 2017
At present, the mechanical testing on the ductility of cement sheath is faced with multiple technical difficulties. In this paper, numerical simulation and laboratory evaluation were adopted to compare the mechanical performance of typical elastic ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Modeling the future carbon sink: Land‐use and climate change may offset CO2 fertilization in the United States

open access: yesPlants, People, Planet
Societal Impact Statement The terrestrial carbon sink currently consumes about a third of the CO2 released to the atmosphere by fossil fuel emissions and land‐use change.

Statistical analysis of Sunspot and total solar irradiance effects on the climate in kirkuk area for three solar cycles (22,23,24)

open access: yesTikrit Journal of Pure Science, 2019
In this study Sunspot number(SSN) and Total solar irradiance(TSI w ) observation were extracted from the Solar Influences Data analysis Center (SIDC) and Earth Radiation Budget Satellite (ERBS) for solar cycles 22,23 and 24 (1988-2017) and for the same ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Trade openness and structural change dynamics in West African countries

open access: yesJournal of Economic Structures
In this study, we investigate the contribution of trade openness to the structural change process in ECOWAS countries. Our findings suggest that the production structural change process is significantly and positively affected by the extent of trade ...
