Abstract Females of R. dominica lay between 200 and 500 eggs in their lifetime. The eggs are laid loose in grain. The lowest temperature at which R. dominica can complete development is 20°C; at this temperature, the development from egg to adult takes 90 days.

Oogenesis in the lesser grain borer, Rhizopertha dominica(Fabricius) (Coleoptera : Bostrichidae)

Abstract The morphology and ultrastructure of ovarioles in Rhizopertha dominica (Coleoptera : Bostrichidae) are described. Ovarioles are of telotrophic type and are composed of an apical terminal filament, trophic chamber, and vitellarium. The trophic chamber consists of numerous individual trophocytes that remain connected by intercellular bridges.

Feeding preference and development of lesser grain borer, Rhyzopertha dominica (Fabricius) in different millet grains

AbstractInvestigations were carried out to assess the feeding preference and development of Rhyzopertha dominica on seven different millets. Results inferred that more feeding preference was towards sorghum (33.33 adults) followed by barnyard millet (25.67 adults) whereas remaining tested millets had less attraction for the pest.

The quantitative and qualitative losses in stored corn infested by Prostephanus truncatus (Horn), and stored for 20 wk at 30°C and 70% RH, were compared with those of Rhyzopertha dominica (F.). Treatments included insect-infested whole corn, uninfested whole corn plus ground corn (dockage), and uninfested whole corn.
