Abstract Nine leukopenic episodes were studied in six alcoholics without coexistent bacterial infection, splenomegaly or megaloblastic erythropoiesis. The number of mature neutrophils was reduced in the blood and bone marrow, and the marrow granulocyte reserve was decreased.

The Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection, and Critical Care, 1982The relationship of silver sulfadiazine therapy to leukopenia has been controversial. In our burn unit the incidence of leukopenia increased dramatically in 1978. Leukopenia was observed only in silver sulfadiazine-treated patients and not in patients treated with other agents.
