Accident Prediction Modeling Approaches for European Railway Level Crossing Safety

open access: yes
Safety is a core concern in the railway operation. Particularly, in Europe, level crossing (LX) safety is one of the most critical issues for railways. LX accidents often lead to fatalities and weighted injuries and seriously hamper railway safety reputation. Moreover, according to statistics, collisions between trains and motorized vehicles contribute

Quantifying the impact of risk factors at railway level crossings using accident prediction models: A cross-country study

open access: yes, 2018
Railway level crossings are critical elements in railway and road networks with accident occurrences resulting in fatal and severe injuries. In addition to the human loss, level crossing accidents also negatively impact rail transport reliability and transport speed.

Farmers’ Protests in Germany: Media Coverage and Types of Bias

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The German farmers’ protests of 2024 sparked widespread media coverage and public debate. Yet, media coverage was not always positive, reflecting the media's attention‐seeking and selective focus. Occurrences of farmers blocking media outlets reflected distrust in how their concerns were portrayed.

Extending Battery Usage Time of a Heavy‐Duty Mecanum‐Wheeled Autonomous Electric Vehicle Used in Iron–Steel Industry by Considering Wheel Slippage

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
It is a fact that slippage causes tracking errors in both longitudinal and lateral directions which results to have less travel distance in tracking a reference trajectory. Less travel distance means having energy loss of the battery and carrying loads less than planned.

Mechanochemistry Meets Catalysis: Metal Complexes for Greener Organic Transformations

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Mechanochemistry is redefining metal catalysis by controlling catalyst formulation, speciation, and deployment. This Review shows how milling, LAG, RAM, and TSE enable rapid metal‐complex assembly, distinctive catalytic manifolds, and scalable synthesis beyond solution chemistry.

The Role of Human Error in Accidents on German Half-Barrier Level Crossings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The work at hand presents the results of an analysis of 51 accidents at German level crossings regarding human error contribution on the part of road traffic users. The results indicate that a half-barrier protection does not provide a strong enough barrier effect to prevent accidents.

Vision‐Based Handover and Organization of Robotic Scrub Nurse for Seamless Surgical Flow

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study presents a pose estimation‐based robotic scrub nurse (PERSN) that assists surgical procedures by estimating the surgeon's hand position, orientation, and grasping state, along with the constraint‐based 6D pose of surgical instruments. User evaluations show that PERSN provides greater immediate usability and reduces physical demand compared ...

Dimensions of the AI Divide: Digital Inequality and Psychological Consequences

open access: yesAI &Innovation, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a foundational component of contemporary social, economic, and political life. Yet, the ways in which AI reshapes patterns of exclusion beyond questions of access and technical capability remain insufficiently theorized.
