Increased Serum Leptin Level Predicts Bone Mineral Density in Hemodialysis Patients
Background. Leptin acts through the adipose-bone axis to regulate bone mineral density (BMD). This study evaluated the relationship between BMD and serum leptin levels in patients on hemodialysis. Methods.

Estimating the level of carbamoylated plasma non-high-density lipoproteins using infrared spectroscopy [PDF]
Background: The increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality observed in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients can be partly explained by the presence of carbamoylated lipoproteins. Lipid profiles can be determined with infrared spectroscopy. In this

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Particle-Hole State Density Calculations with Non-Equidistant Spacing Model: I. Basic Derivation
The basic analytical formula for particle-hole state densities is derived based on the non-Equidistant Spacing Model (non-ESM) for the single-particle level density (s.p.l.d.) dependence on particle excitation energy u.

A fully microscopic model of total level density in spherical nuclei
A fully microscopic model for the description of nuclear level density (NLD) in spherical nuclei is proposed. The model is derived by combining the partition function of the exact pairing solution plus the independent-particle model at finite temperature

Test of nuclear level density inputs for Hauser-Feshbach model calculations
The energy spectra of neutrons, protons, and alpha-particles have been measured from the d+59Co and 3He+58Fe reactions leading to the same compound nucleus, 61$Ni.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

A novel projected shell model method for nuclear level density [PDF]
We introduce a shell model method for calculating nuclear level density (NLD) generally applicable for arbitrarily heavy deformed nuclei. The method is novel because of our use of physical guidance for the construction of its configuration space and the ...
