A fully microscopic model of total level density in spherical nuclei

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 2020
A fully microscopic model for the description of nuclear level density (NLD) in spherical nuclei is proposed. The model is derived by combining the partition function of the exact pairing solution plus the independent-particle model at finite temperature

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Level Set Gait Analysis for Synthesis and Reconstruction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We describe a new technique to extract the boundary of a walking subject, with ability to predict movement in missing frames. This paper uses a level sets representation of the training shapes and uses an interpolating cubic spline to model the ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

ADJECTIVE AND NOUN CLAUSE LEXICAL DENSITY IN AN ENGLISH TEXTBOOK FOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

open access: yesGetsempena English Education Journal, 2020
This paper analyzed the lexical density of the adjective and noun clauses in an English textbook for senior high school students in Indonesia. It aimed to discover whether or not the textbook was suitable for the students in terms of lexical density. The

Level density rotational enhancement factor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
© 2019 American Physical Society. Bethe wrote a pivotal paper providing the formalism for the theory of nuclear level densities. At that time, there were no known deformed nuclei, so Bethe made the assumption that all nuclei are spherical. After deformed

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Count2Density: Crowd Density Estimation without Location-level Annotations [PDF]

open access: yes
Crowd density estimation is a well-known computer vision task aimed at estimating the density distribution of people in an image. The primary challenge in this domain is the reliance on fine-grained location-level annotations-i.e., points placed on top ...
