Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Relationship between the carrying angle, medial instability of the elbow, and general joint laxity in high school baseball pitchers: a cross-sectional study

open access: yesJSES International
Background: An increase in carrying angle (CA) on the throwing side has been reported in professional baseball pitchers. However, no reports have investigated high school baseball pitchers, and the associated factors remain unknown.

The role of particle diffusion in the lower transition region: Revised interpretation of emission measures [PDF]

open access: yes
Our energy-balance models of the lower transit ion region were presented in a previous paper (New Models of the Chromosphere and Transition Region). Here we show the influence of particle diffusion on the calculated hydrogen and helium number densities ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Relationship between preoperative body composition parameters and postoperative clinical score for rotator cuff tear patients

open access: yesJSES International
Background: Various intrinsic and extrinsic factors have been reported for rotator cuff tears (RCTs). This study aimed to assess the relationship between preoperative body composition parameters and postoperative clinical score in patients who underwent ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
