The theory of ordering lexicographic entries: Principles, algorithms and computer implementation

Computers and the Humanities, 1992
A general theory of ordering lexicographic entries in various languages is formulated. Basic concepts and principles of one-, and many-step ordering are discussed. The algorithms for one-step (alphabetic), two-step (alphabetic with diacritical marks) and many-step ordering (with attributes) are derived and illustrated on examples.

A theory of lexicographic multi-criteria optimization

Proceedings of ICECCS '96: 2nd IEEE International Conference on Engineering of Complex Computer Systems (held jointly with 6th CSESAW and 4th IEEE RTAW), 2002
The field of multi-criteria optimization is reviewed as it pertains to lexicographic optimization over real-valued vector spaces. How lexicographic optimization differs from multi-criteria optimization that is restricted to proper Pareto optima is explained.

An Algorithm for Linearly-Constrained Piecewise Lexicographic Programming Problems

open access: yesJournal of Optimization Theory and Applications, 2001
The Linear Piecewise Lexicographic Programming (LPWLGP) problem is a mathematical programming model with linear constraints and several piecewise linear objective functions, arranged in a lexicographic hierarchy.

A theory of lexicographic texts: an overview

South African Journal of Linguistics, 1996
The dictionary research constitutes the main part of metalexicography, it can be divided into four fields of research: the research on dictionary use, the critical dictionary research, the historic...

Unveiling New Dimensions in Soft Disemigraph Theory: Lexicographic and Restricted Lexicographic Products

New Mathematics and Natural Computation
Soft set theory provides a systematic approach for handling imprecision and uncertainty by categorizing elements of a set based on specific parameters. In semigraph theory, soft semigraphs utilize this approach, offering a parameterized perspective that has significantly advanced the field through effective parameter management.

Anatomy of a Verb Entry: from Linguistic Theory to Lexicographic Practice

International Journal of Lexicography, 1988
In the context of five learners’ dictionaries, we examine the treatment of certain systematic relationships in the semantics and syntax of the English verb and find a lack of systematicity in this aspect of the lexicography. We present detailed evidence to support our criticism, including citations from a corpus of general English.

Dictionary criticism and lexicographical function theory

2017
This contribution discusses dictionary criticism in the light of the function theory. It starts analyzing the objective of dictionary criticism and lists eight of the most important purposes with which criticism has been made by supporters of the function theory.

Lexicographic Etymology: Practice versus Theory

American Speech, 1965
ACOMPARISON OF SUCCESSIVE DICTIONARIES, ranging from Robert Cawdrey's Table Alphabeticall of I 604 through the later works of Bullokar, Cockeram, Phillips, and others, right down to the present and far more complex projects such as the NID 3, reveals that much lexicographic practice has developed in spurts, purely by accident or, often, by virtue of ...

Lexicographic Approach Based on Evidence Theory for Blood Cell Image Segmentation

2017
The analysis of microscope cell blood images can provide useful information concerning health of patients; the main different components of blood are White Blood Cells (WBCs), Red Blood Cells (RBCs) and platelets. When a disease and foreign materials infect human bodies, the number of WBCs increases to respond and defend infection.

Defining collocation for lexicographic purposes. From linguistic theory to lexicographic practice

2016
This volume aims to promote a discussion on the definition of collocation that will be useful for lexicographic purposes. Each of the papers the volume contains addresses in detail one or more aspects of three main issues. The first issue concerns, on the one hand, the boundaries between collocations and other word combinations, and the way in which ...
