Lower Bounds for Maximum Weight Bisections of Weighted Triangle‐Free Subcubic Graphs

open access: yesJournal of Graph Theory, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A bisection of a graph is a cut in which the number of vertices in the two parts of the cut differ by at most 1. In this paper, we consider maximum weight bisections of edge‐weighted triangle‐free subcubic graphs and show that every weighted triangle‐free subcubic graph G = ( V , E , w ) $G=(V,E,w)$ has a bisection with weight at least θ ⋅ w (

On the Bankruptcy Situations and the Alexia Value

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2012
The main result of this paper is to show that the three ancient bankruptcy situations from the 2000-year-old Babylonian Talmud can be solved by using the average lexicographic value (Alexia) from cooperative game theory.

A Coarse Geometric Approach to Graph Layout Problems

open access: yesJournal of Graph Theory, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We define a range of new coarse geometric invariants based on various graph–theoretic measures of complexity for finite graphs, including treewidth, pathwidth, cutwidth and bandwidth. We prove that, for bounded degree graphs, these invariants can be used to define functions which satisfy a strong monotonicity property, namely, they are ...

PRINCIPLES OF TOPONYMIC LEXICOGRAPY IN NON-SPECIAL ENGLISH DICTIONARIES

open access: yesЗаписки з романо-германської філології, 2018
The problem of lexicographic inclusion of toponymic lexical units in general explanatory dictionaries is considered at the given article. At the same time, a classification scheme of typological description of place-names has been developed, a number of ...

Four‐Dimensional pp‐Wave Lie Groups and Harmonic Curvature

open access: yesMathematische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We determine all four‐dimensional Lie groups which have harmonic curvature. In parallel, a description of four‐dimensional pp‐wave Lie groups is obtained.

Lexicographic tools for describing substandard lexical systems of the contrasted languages

open access: yesҚарағанды университетиниң хабаршысы. Филология сериясы
The study explores challenges in describing non-standard lexical items within the lexicographic frameworks of different languages. The relevance of the study stems from the absence of a unified methodology for the description of non-standard vocabulary ...

From Nominalisation to Passive in Old Tibetan: Reconstructing Grammatical Meaning in an Extinct Language1

open access: yesTransactions of the Philological Society, EarlyView.
Abstract Based on an analysis of the Old Literary Tibetan corpus—a corpus of the oldest documented Tibetic language—the present study provides evidence that literary Tibetan v3 verb stems (commonly termed ‘future’) initially encoded passive voice. New arguments put forward in this article range from Trans‐Himalayan nominal morphology to early Tibetan ...

‘Enthusiasts’ and ‘Fanatics’: The Decembrists as a Case Study in French Influence on Russian Culture, Emotions and Thought

open access: yesHistory, EarlyView.
Abstract Participants in Russia's 1825 Decembrist uprising against the Tsarist regime were, quite literally, a case study in French cultural influence upon Russia. This is particularly true as it relates to Russia's emotional cultures. Although this has not, traditionally, been the primary focus of historical analysis of this event (in Soviet or ...

The pedagogical dimension of the well-conceived specialised dictionary [PDF]

open access: yesIbérica, 2005
In the course of the past 30 years it has been acknowledged that research on pedagogical lexicography has to address three main issues: (i) development of new formats to cover both communicative and non-communicative situations; (ii) the layout of the ...

Five Principles for a New Economic Consensus

open access: yesGlobal Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper puts forward five principles for a new economic consensus, which could serve as a modern alternative to the Washington Consensus of 35 years ago. They are built on new ideas that have gained currency in economics over the past three decades. We also provide examples of the policies that could follow from these principles.
